3m Polishes

My friend's dad got 3 different 3m polishes and pads from the painter that did his car. I know he has ultrafina SE but Im not sure what else.

Yes, they have the blue Ultrafina pads - comes in a 2 pack, I got a quart of Extra Cut and UltrafinaSE, plus a wool compounding pad, and foam: compounding, polishing and the blue UF ones. Jim will set you up with an account there and get you the shop rate.

Will you be around here this weekend?

Not till May. Pleasures of getting a degree. Thanks for info!

About the Carquest bit, I will add this. I went to the new Carquest near me (opened in December!), and they lacked many 3M polishing products, such as the Ultrafina and blue pad (I'm learning rotary so was trying to stock up).

I asked about the possibility of ordering it, and the manager was very nice and showed me their catalog, but the catalog seemed to have the 2005 edition of the 3M lineup, as it had no Ultrafina and only a few 3000 products.

However! The manager told me to go and find the product code for Ultrafina and bring it to them and they'll order it. So I would advise going prepared with the product code for whichever products you are looking for as the Carquest near you may not have it yet.

Whats the difference bewteen extra cut and fast cut plus? And instead of finishing either of those 2 products with ultrafine SE can I use 1066ff?

I just bought the Extra Cut & Ultrafina SE for about $48 apiece locally at a car paint shop.

I know that the extra cut should be used with a rotary, but has anyone used a Flex with yellow or orange pad? thanks!

Been using Finesse It for a while and just recently tried Ultrafina.

Very nice product (Ultrafina) and is awesome on a black finish. I believe all 3M products are meant for rotary use, and I tried using with a PC in the past and had way to much marring.

I was watching the 3M PI-3000 video and noticed that their guys slipped and referred to the SMR (middle step) as "Machine Glaze", as in PI-III MG 05937 :doh Old habits die hard :D Anybody tried the PI-III MG as the middle step? I never went from the (old) Extra Cut straight to MG, but MG is a nice medium-mild product, no fillers either.

If the PI-3000 Extra Cut is anything like the PI-III Extra Cut, it's truly rotary-only. The milder 3M RCs work OK with non-rotary methods IME.

You could use 106, but on some paints UF will finish off way better.

A great combo is

3M Extra cut 06060

106

UF

Your right Dean, it does finish off excellent on black, especially on soft finicky blacks. I know 3M designs all of their polishes for rotary use, but I do know a few people that have used them on a pc with good results.

Rick - what pads are you using and it's all rotary - right? Thanks

JuneBug, I do all my work by rotary.

For pads I used:

Yellow edge wool pad for the 3M Extra Cut

Black ripple foam pad for the 106ff

Blue Ultrafina pad for the Ultrafina

All pads are 8-inch
