Hi,



I was planning on using these products to clean the paint and to apply the wax on these cars.



Has anyone used these products and can tell me how long the protection would last on daily driver cars?



Also, is there any benefits to using the paste wax vs. the liquid wax on the cars? I have a Silver and Beige color cars.
 
It won't last very long. I have used the Perfect-It Show Car wax and was very unimpressed with it. Initial shine was good but diminished quickly. The wax lasted less than 2 weeks.



For long lasting protection on a daily driver go with a polymer product. :up
 
The cleaner wax did a very good job when I used it. If you use 3M show car PASTE wax it does have a polymer, Acrylic Silicone Flouropolymer which carries a 3M patent. The liquid wax does not contain this ingredient.
 
Also, the show car paste has a 10 to 30$ carnauba content while the liquid has one. Just look at the material info sheets. I think the paste wax will last longer then the liquid.



Is the application of the paste wax more involved then the liquid?
 
I can tell you from expierence the Show Car Paste Wax does not last long, 2 weeks if your lucky. Other's senior members on this board have tested it and come to the same conclusions.
 
So then I will just buy the cleaner and some polymer sealant and that should provide me some protection for the paint
 
You can't apply a polymer over a cleaner wax!! The oils in the wax will prevent the polymer from bonding. You also can't apply a cleaner wax over a polymer sealant because the abrasives in the wax will remove the polymer.
 
Basically what I want to do is once a year to clean the paint and apply a sealant 2x a year so that I have year round protection.



What do you suggest I do then?
 
It seems like i'm going in circles here. I like the Zaino approach but the dawn wash seems cumbersome. I hardly ever hand wash the cars since I use the touchless washes and they seem to do a good job.



I already have a polymer wax on the car. Could I not just apply Zaino overtop it since the polymers should be compatible (I would hope). The stuff I use now is Krown Rust's Luminate Paint Protectant (sold in Canada)
 
Zaino must be applied to a clean surface, nothing present on it. Polymer products are not interchangeable with each other, just does not work that way. The Dawn wash is not a big deal, you only have to do it once (before your first application of Z). I don't really understand what's "cumbersome" about it, very simple and does not take very long.



Down the road you might want to reconsider using those car washes, they cause swirl marks galore and typically use very harsh detergents.
 
3M Show Car Paste Wax leaves a nice shine, but like Showroom said, the durability of it was very disappointing.



2002Camry, if you're planning on cutting corners or doing a snow-job in your paint prep, you might be disappointed in your final results. Why is doing a Dawn wash cumbersome? You'll basically be doing the exact same thing as a regular wash, the only difference is the soap. Just do a Dawn wash, a light claying, follow that up with a Z-7 wash and then apply a few coats of Zaino. IMO, that is the absolute MINIMUM amount of paint prep anyone should do prior to applying Zaino....even on a new car.
 
I guess I should have thought about this before I applied the polymer sealant on my cars. Had I known about the pros/cons about them, I would have bought the car wash materials.



Here I thought a car wash, a wet cloth and start waxing. What was I thinking!:confused:
 
To try something different I just applied 3M's show car wax on my 96 minivan. It was applied on Sunday May 19. I"ll keep ya all posted about durability. It was very easy to apply and buff off.

Price for the can $16.00 CND.

I am curious what is meant by durability: do you mean the ability to bead water? or the slickness of the surface? maintain shine?



Some polymers only bead water until the solvents have evaporated then they sheet water more than bead.
 
My view of durability is a combination of all three factors you mentioned.



I am assuming that you are refering to Intermezzo's and my comments about the durability of 3M Show Car Paste Wax. I personally used that wax on many different cars and many different situations, the wax did not last longer than 2 weeks on any of them.



The water beaded for about a week, then switch to sheeting and finally after around a week and a half the water just laid on the surface (like on an un-waxed car). Shine and slickness we totally gone after this period. The surface of the car also squeaked,(no wax present)



The whole idea of polymers in carnuba waxes it totally overated. Whatever polymers they put into it will not work properly because of the high oil content of the wax.
