3M Finesse-It II Dusting Like Crazy

PC with 3M creates a white powder ALL over the place. I have to constantly microfiber the dust off the paint. Very annoying. Is this normal with 3M compounds? Or is it normal with almost all polishes?

How do I reduce or eliminate the dusting, if it's actually called that?

It does dust pretty bad. It starts drying out on the edge of the pad. About all you can do is stop and clean the pad.

I love the results of the 3M line, but I'm not fond of the dusting.

Yup, all the 3M polishes i've tried have been like that. Great results, but a pain to work with 'cause of the dusting. Polishes definitely create different amounts of dust. Optimum, for example, really doesn't dust at all.

I wouldn't touch it, because it is carcinogen. Or use it with a full mask and controlled ventilation.

Does the FI-II contain silica? I know the PI-II FCRC does and the PI-III line does *not*, but I don't know about the Finesse It products :nixweiss

According to the MSDS, they don't contain silica (think of combined effects), but I think with a health hazard rating of 2, I'd still leave it and would look for less harmful ones.

3M recommends: "Select one of the following NIOSH approved respirators based on airborne concentration of contaminants and in accordance with OSHA regulations: Half facepiece or fullface air-purifying respirator with organic vapor cartridges and P95 particulate prefilters, half facepiece or fullface air-purifying respirator with P95 particulate filters."

Nevertheless, if the material works flawlessly, everyone can use it - with the necessary precautions.

Bence- OK thanks for clarifying. Glad I latched on to the PI-III stuff...I not only like it better but I've never heard of any serious health concerns with it. Not that I'd want to be breathing *any* of this stuff as much as a pro would be doing ;)
