3M Clear Bra

I have heard a lot of good things about the different invisible braws on the market but have a few questions on how they work with a regular cleaning/waxing program.



I am going to employ "The Perfect Shine" method and was wondering...

1) Should I give "The Perfect Shine" and then immediately apply the invisible braw over the last layer of wax?

2) Should I then add a layer of wax to the braw?

3) Can I go through the entire process with the the braw?

4) I am guessing I will not want to use any stong polishes on the braw, right? Maybe start with Klasse AIO on the braw?

5) How do these raws hold up and look with regular waxing



I appoligize if this was already discussed...I did a search and found nothing.

I think you would detail the car and then I apply the bra.



I think you CAN wax some bras...maybe not all of them.



I wouldn't use any polishes or cleaners on them. It may be OK to do, but I'm not sure so I won't suggest it.



It is very difficult to see the bra on the car. I would assume it would look just like the rest of the car since there is detailed paint right underneath the clear bra.
 
I think you may find there is a prep to go through before the *bra* is applied and it will lift any waxes etc ..



You will want to polish the paint to near perfection first as any flaws will show under the bra.
 
3M clear auto bra-available in custom, laser cut templates that are available for virtually all car models, and many parts of the car, clean / maintain with a plastic cleaner / polish (Plexus). Polish / wax as you would for a clear coat paint (if using a machine polisher you should tape the edges of the plastic film)

As Jesstzn stated pre prepping the surface before installiation is very important.

We have one on our 2003 Maxima.

It was professionally installed. I prepped the hood by applying Klasse AIO with a orange pad.



The installer then applied the bra. We wax in on a regular basis just as it it were the hood. It has fended off a lot of chips but three had made it through also. They would have been a lot worse had the bra not been there.



DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT, use a bug sponge or a buffer on the bra. We learned the hard way and had it replaced because it got scratched so bad from a bug sponge.
 
Our installer wanted bare paint. He actually used Bug and Tar remover to wipe down the paint of any waxes that was on the paint.



The finish does have a clear coat, but I wouldn't polish it at all except by hand with a mild abrasive maybe, like #9. I regularly AIO/SG the bra.
 
My installer said he would "prep" the surface to remove any wax/sealant and the bra was best applied to the bare paint.

I'm very pleased that I purchased the bra because it does protect the finish. Mine is 3M.
 
I bought my car used and it had the 3M on it. It definitely does a great job and you can't really see it.



As far as I know, the previous owner washed/waxed over it just as if it was paint. There are two kinds of 3M, with and without clearcoat.



I have the type with clearcoat, so you can wash and wax that as normal. I don't know how it would work without clearcoat.



Anyone?
 
I *thought* they had a clearcoat applied (or injected into the polymer) for UVR protection?

And how much do the cost? I did find a place that sells them here in San Diego... have not followed up on it. good to see everyone enjoys the clear bras. For a road trip across the country, I was thinking about buying the normal bra for protection, will that harm the clear one? my last one rubbed a bit and I had to polish the corners of the front quart, nothing major. After that, I only use the bra for cross country where I don't know what the roads have in store for me. I know I save a few chips with it. Living in SOCAL you get spoil since they never gravel the roads in the summer like they do in Texas where I grew up.

When I use the reg bra for road trips I know the rub areas and I use a bit of 3M Scotch #88 electrical tape in the areas and remove it once the trip is done .. Let the bra rub on the tape . Cheap easy quick solution with no tape residue etc.

i was thinking about buying one for my car as well. One how much does it normally run for and Second i like to use Zaino so i can go over it with the bra on huh? If you have to use tape which one do you guys use and does it hurt your paint?
