303 on leather

Looks like I'll be considering a very good cleaning followed by 303 unless someone wants to chime in on why I should continue with Zaino or 4* conditioners.
The great leather smell? :D
Actually, I'm still a little undecided on this subject. While there has been some interesting discussion, I guess I'm just not convinced either way.
The 303 article has some good points, but is in contrast to some information I received from Leatherique. I will post the Leatherique info shortly.
303 happens to be one of my favorite products and I do respect their comments,but....
It coated'treated leather is nin-absorbent how do they manage this:

"303 Aerospace Protectant™ softens hardening leather and leaves a natural, lustrous, repellent, non-oily finish."

If it can't penetrate, how does it soften hardening leather?

Anyway, read the e-mail I received from George Pavlisko Jr., Mr. Leatherique himself. I deleted the e-mail from Leatherique post since it was a private message possibly not intended to be posted on the internet. Sorry about that.:)

I can answer that for you Charles. The quote you supply from 303 refers to finished leather not coated. These are two different things. Re-read the post from laefd. It gives you a definition of finished and unfinished leather.

Leather conditioners are perfectly fine for finished leather. They are made for them in fact. 303 is saying their product can also be used on finished leather.
Coated leather is another thing. 303 is great for coated because it is vinyl. Leather conditioners are not.

some SPF 45 on the dash? If its not too greasy, ill give it a whirl!

Nothing against Charles but that recommedation from Leatherique to use sun tan lotion on vinyl has got to be one of the most idiotic things I have read in detailing. That recommendation alone should tip you off about how misinformed the person is that sent that e mail.

So, coated leather is different from finished leather then? If so, how can you tell the difference?

I first found about all this coated, non coated, finished, and non finished leather BS when I tried to apply Lexol to my leather seats in my Toyota. Any time I applied leather conditioner to leather before it soaked in and left the leather soft and supple. When I put the Lexol on the leather seats in the Toyota it just sat on the surface and made a slimy mess. Clearly it was not penetrating the leather. I contacted Toyota and they informed me my leather seats were coated. I got on line and into some detailing sites like Detailcity, Autopia, ect and some of the online stores like CMA, 303 , etc and started reading about the different types of leather. So to answer your question I knew my seats were coated by the way the leather conditoner performed on them.

Obviously a topic of some interest and discussion; not so sure we have any definitive answers. Still think we need to hear directly from the 4*, Zaino, Megs, type folks.

All I know if that I've used 4* and Zaino both and am happy with the results, BUT if in the long run I'm headed toward a mess I want to know. One of the keys to detailing is obviously to use the RIGHT product for the application - now I just don't know what the RIGHT product would be for my "leather" seats.
