$300 In An Hour

I mentioned this before in other threads, but I have similar concerns as Accumulator and its the reason I haven't used my OC yet on the painted panels of my cars. It was my initial impression the "official" word was that OC needed to be completely removed before re-application of the product (or application of any other LSP) due to adhesion issues. The latest word from Chris seems to be saying it's ok to just scuff and re-apply. This is a little more reassuring to me but also a bit confusing. I either misunderstood at first or they are finding out through experimentation that you really don't need to level the product down to the clear coat.

I still plan to use it for certain tasks (at the very least) but I may end up waiting a bit more before trying it out on the rest of the car.

In a recent survey that was conducted the results showed that 98.75% of all automobile owners would rather apply 1 product every 5 years, then having to repeat the protection process every 3-6 months

All I see is opportunity with this product. Finally there is a product that I would feel comfortable trying to sell to potential clients, that would compete with what the dealerships are offering up, and be able to do this at a fraction of the cost

Wow....WOW.....what a surprise to see! I was notified by David that he was able to resurrect this classic thread and now upon visiting it I see it really did happen. So a BIG thank you to David, he's a class act and I consider him a good friend even though we have never meet.

I call it a "classic" thread not because I started it but because it went viral in minutes after posting it as the topic seemed to touch a nerve among the detailing community here at Autopia. I can remember trying to reply to someone one page one and by the time I posted the reply it was already half way through page two! It kept on growing so fast it blew me away.

Then I got that "Your banned" email from DavidB.....lol, my second ban from Autopia in like 2 weeks. That's old news now but this thread sure took on a life of its own and so happy to see it back again.

….makes me wonder what happens to those threads I know existed in the past but I can never seem to find when I scour the forums. It’s a shame good information gets lost and forgotten this way. Thanks for bringing this one back from exile David and thanks to the moderators for realizing its worth. …..and (obviously) thanks to folks like Anthony (and yourself) for sharing these personal experiences in the first place.

You're welcome! Besides the new administration bringing back old/banned members, they are insistent on allowing anyone & everyone to share their experiences with any product. Be it good or bad. We all know that DavidB had many ulterior motives in respect to sharing info. This thread resurrection is proof that times have changed for the better. Feel free to reach out to me or a Moderator if you have any other ideas about old threads that can't be found.

Ron and I went out this afternoon to apply the new Optimum coating on a new BMW M3.

We started at 1:54 PM, we rinsed off the wheels, No Rinsed the paint, vacuumed, wiped down the leather, conditioned it, glass cleaned then applied the new Optimum Coating to the entire paint, lenses, jams and wheels.

We finished at 3:05 and billed my client for $300.00

We have another one scheduled for tomorrow plus one more maybe on Wednesday.

Hell of a lot easier than buffing all darn day!!

I thought Id bump this epic thread as I feel everyone should know that Anthony was (and still is) the godfather of coatings. Everyone that has reaped the bountiful rewards by adding them to your arsenal should be aware of this and know that without him and this thread this aspect of industry might not be what it is today.

I remember him posting this back then, a great detailer that alot of folks who dont know about should read some of his threads.

Truer words were never spoken here !

These good men Anthony and Ron, have been doing this work longer than some of the readers on this Forum have been alive.. :)

I read their posts for years before I ever had the pleasure of meeting them at their shop, and having them work over my Grand Cherokee after one of my 2,000 mile drives from NorCal to San Antonio..

Their beautiful, well organized, clean, very well lit, and clean shop reflects how these men and their family members are, and live their lives..

The number of years experience combined is definitely way, way, longer than anyone on this Site including all the old guys like myself.. :)

Want to really learn about Detailing ? See this Team sometime.. :)

+1 to what Dan said. I have had the pleasure of stopping by Ron and Anthonys shop many years ago and they let my then 10yo son sit in a beaut of a Ferrari (dad just admired the car). Id love to spend a month just playing intern there to pick up a smidge of knowledge at that business for my own personal use.

I once paid someone $300 for an hour to detail my car. She was so good - I even gave her a tip.

Wouldnt that kind of be the opposite of detailing? ;)

(Was going to go with something else, but its kind of pushing the limits I think.)

Didnt Anthony have a test vehicle he put OCP on right down the middle? Half the car, including rear window was perfect the other half was a normal car? that was neat at the time.

Its amazing that some of the questions about coatings being asked 8 years ago are still being asked today. I.E. protection against swirls, longetivity, application methods, topping, etc. Is this a failure of the manufacturer to properly address the questions or the installation specialist to properly explain the coating to the customer? The market for coatings has probably expanded over the last 8 years, but as good as coatings actually are I would have expected them to be a much larger portion of the market. It could be the lack of professional installers too. In my area of the country there are no professional coating installers. You have to go to a large metropolitan area to find a qualified installer. Or could be the manufacturer making the installer purchase a set amount of coating each month that scares away installers? As I stated earlier, still so many questions after 8 years.

HELLO! wow...just read thru this drama the other day and it made me really reflect!

First, lot`s of you have stated some really nice things, kind words, very encouraging so for that a very heartfelt and humbling Thank You!

I look back and have to chuckle cause originally I wanted Dr. G to craft a "coating" (had no idea what to call it) for just myself and customers of mine. It sure took off in a whole different direction, LOL and got me banned from so many forums, I was "cancelled" before that was even a thingB)

So many things in the industry has changed in these years and honestly I am not sure it`s all for the better. I mean to be honest I still love to detail cars but not many people want that type of work performed any longer. The "art" in my tagline of "The Art & Science of Auto Detail" has kinda been snuffed out and somewhere lost, at least I feel it has. I still love laying down hand applied waxes. Miss the smell of Meguiars #7 and the joy of working on single stage Porsche Guards Red!

I pray you are all good, safe and working your dreams and passion.

Happy Detailing!
Anthony
