3" Polisher

Junebug

JAFO
ok, AG has started selling Griots Garage and they have a little 3" polisher that looks kinda like the more pricey Metabo SX thingie. Anybody look at this? Anybody have one or willing to comment? I got this 5-0 birthday coming up and wife is looking for something that I could use.

Hey Junebug, If you have a machine already (PC), it can do the same has that one than I think you should spend your money on something else like (pads, Chemicals, MF Towels) before buying that machine.

I use the 3.5" backing plate and 4" foam pads on my PC. Works great for small areas, spot polishing, etc. I recently used them to polish some plastic headlight lenses.:D

Guys, I have a PC and a Flex, sold my Makita - I was thinking that a small, light machine would be good for A-pillers and wheels. I know a guy that has the Metabo version and likes it very much.

I have only used the Griots normal polisher (looks like a PC) and found it to have even less power then the PC. Never tried the 3 inch polisher and didn't know they had one.

A lot of my clients have Griots products and some of them are okay and some good, but when Proper Auto Care and the rest of the industry was approached about carrying the line we polietly declined. We want to carry the best products avilable, not ones just because they will sell. Different beliefs and neither is right or wrong, just different.

If you do get the 3 inch polisher let us know how it is!

I have a Griot's 3" unit and I will never part with it. It is smaller and more maneuverable than any PC and has more than enough power. It can reach places that the typical orbials and rotaries cannot. Period. It has a good variable speed range and when I used it to polish up some lower panels (I made a post in "Everything Else") the light weight helped me control the pad in tight areas. They have pads for it for paint polishing (orange) refining (red), metal (white) and general surfaces (yellow). They also have glass pads. If you have an orbital/rotary where you can mount 4" or 3" backing plates and pads, great. But I like the lighter weight of this unit. It's a special purpose tool for me, but it sure beats the hell out of trying to fit a 6" pad into a 3" space. I have the larger Griot's polisher as well and it could use a little more power, but overall it does what I want it to do.

PS: I have the Griot's polishers, but I use Meguiars polish/glaze/waxes :)

I'm very happy with my Metabo mini!!!

D!

I have a Griot's full-size orbital and am fairly happy with it. Don't/won't use any of their other products though; just wasn't all that impressed. I've been trying to convert my dad over to PAC, but he's an old dog I guess. Griot's must have done something right with their marketing though, because even with inferior products, they've become the "go to" for most of the upscale car clubs in the Houston area.

I'm in the same boat but am looking at a pneumatic Dynabrade one....
I did eyeball the" griout. The air one is less portable.....but love the size of it...

Hey, ya'll know I prefer to buy from PAC, and I can understand not wanting to carry a line that may or may not be in the best interest. I want to thank the poster with the 3" buffer - great review and that's enough for me to let the wife know to order it, whether she will .....well that's up for debate, guess if I don't piss her off too much she might. I'm hoping ol Brandon will have a Detail Meet soon and I can sell a few things that I just don't use. One thing that I'm looking forward to is the 2 details I have lined up for Thur/Fri!
