Have a 3 month old Silver Dodge Ram Quad Cab that I just had lowered.... Havent even changed the oil on it yet.

Want to put my first coat of wax on it and dont know where to start.....I have read lots of threads for many hours and there are so many suggestions.

I know I will wash and then clay it a little, but as far as everything after that I am lost.

It doesnt have any swirl marks or scratches of any kind. Basically brand new paint job.

Recommendations??

Hi and welcome! After hand washing and claying, I would use a chemical paint cleaner first, then I would apply a Paint sealant. These are much more durable than carnauba wax and can last as long as a year. Some claim to be good for up to 5 years, but I am a little skeptical of those claims. Finally I would top it off with a good carnauba for some added depth and shine. Here is my personal products that I would use:
1. Klasse AIO
2. 4* UPP or FMJ
3. Top with Pizaaz Wax
All of the products listed are easy on/easy off. Most can be bought by our sponsors sites. However, you may have to go to Top of the Line to buy the Pizaaz wax. Its worth it for your paint color, but you could easily substitute this with P21S Wax. I also use a product called Glare. Not many people on this site use it, but I like it. It would be used in step#2 instead of the 4*. It can be purchased at www.autopolish.net. Again, welcome and good luck. :welcome

Wash & clay

Really inspect your finish closely to make absolutely certain you don't see any marring/scratches/swirls. Chances are, you might be overlooking some, no matter how isolated they may be. Go ahead and take care of them from the starting block.

A good polish. For me it's Adam's Revive or ColorX. It could be other things, such as AIO. (This is if I don't do any swirl mark removal. If I do that, it's usually SSR1)

A sealant. UPP for me, usually with a second coat. You could top it later with a wax if you so choose, just give it time to properly bond to the paint.

One question I have is if you let the UPP bond properly are we talking 24hrs.? If so how do you all keep your cars clean for the 24 hour period. If I drive to work and let it sit in the parking lot at work it will most likely get some dust on it. What do you do to get the car ready for the wax after the 24 hr wait between coats??

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, 24 hours is the recommended time to allow UPP to bond. If it gets slightly dusty you could use a product like Poorboy's S&W or Adam's Detail Spray. You could also give it a quick wash.

S&W is what I use after curing before topping. Even if I just let the car sit in the garage. Sometimes grit or something gets on the car anyway. I learned the hard way on that one ...
