Hooked For Life
Yesterday I attended the 2012 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. It is an annual event for me, and like always, it did not disappoint. There weren’t as many people (thankfully) as last year, and it seemed like there were less cars, but it was a total pleasure to stroll past all of the automotive delight.
During my visit, some people I spoke with included the restorers of a V12 Lincoln who use Dodo Juice Supernatural wax. So I’m thinking that if Amelia were to endorse a particular boutique product, I suppose that would be it. Others mentioned using the typical: Mother’s, Meg’s, etc.
This was the first time I actually saw Dodo Juice in person and how it looked on a car it’s the right before my eyes—I point it out in the batch of photos below. Well, what I can say? It looked great, (but we know one doesn’t *need* boutique products to get spectacular results) and at $200 a pot, it better look great. ( although I see you can buy the small sample for $30; maybe I’ll give it a whirl for the fun of it)
One disheartening thing I observed was that someone had keyed the hood of a new BMW M5 right under the BMW tent! The blue is sort of like the color of my Honda. The audacity and brazenness of the fiend !
Now I’m half jokingly thinking of attending the event with a full detailing kit including my GG polisher. I would’ve gladly offered to help. I don’t think it was bad enough for a rotary. Maybe a few passes with something like M105 ( if that) and M205 could’ve probably erased the keying. I’ve seen deeper and worse.
At any rate, this year I have four videos and a ton of photos that I’m sharing below. I am not a videographer by any means, and maneuvering around people was a little tight at times, but I tried to capture some of what it’s like to stroll through the Concours.
Please have a look and enjoy and be sure to check out my write-up of the Lake Mirror Classic, coming up later on in October.
