My name is Mike
A friend's new-to-her car. She picked it up a week ago Thursday and the dealer apologized for its grubby state. Her husband said, "don't worry - her friend is a detailer." That is an understatement. ;)

It arrived dirty. Wheels with PWB S&R and CG SGCWC (pretty bad). A little more extensive decon this time (foamed with OPC + CG CW, 2BM with CG CWC, IronX Snow Foam 8:1, "claying" with Nanoskin Autoscrub + GG6 + ONR clay lube strength).

With the dirt removed, I could see a hazy

No problem - Rupes + Orange CG Hexlogic + Sonax Nano Polish to the rescue

About 3.5 hours of polishing. Yes, another 1-step.

Side note - Sonax Nano Polish is awesome. Cut is about the same as Menz Power Finish (po203s) but finishes better. Works faster, too. No dust and easy wipe up.

She was very happy with it but has seen a lot of my work via these posts so was expecting this. I keep reminding myself that artists are never appreciated in their lifetimes. ;)

I probably would have taken an hour or so more of polishing with a GG6 or my Flex - and that is just for the 1-step. I have never had cars finish out as nicely in 1-step either. So, I would probably have gone back and done a second step on at least the hood, roof, trunk and above the beauty lines if I had the time. Got to be 30-40% or more.

The Rupes action seems to break down DATs in just a pass or two and then you are in to refining.

So, I am faster and do better work. That is a good combination.

It's funny - before the Rupes, I seemed to be collecting all of the new compounds & MF pads to get the heavy cut and good finish. Now am more interested in medium/finish polishes and foam pads. Even had great results on deeply marred, soft, Honda paint with MF pads + M205 (not a typo). A whole new world....
 
Hey Mike, I noticed you didn't say if you used the Rupes 21 or 15?

Also, have you tried a 5" bp on the Rupes 21?

I called Kevin Brown the other day and he said that it might feel weird but as long as you keep one hand on the head of the Rupes for stability purposes, there should be no issues.
 
I use both. The 21 got me most of the car but used the 15 on the front and rear areas. I even used the GG6 with a 3" BP and GG Orange pad for the A-pillars, roof ribbon and mirrors.

I have not tried polishing with the 15 BP on the 21.
