2010 Lexus is250 - polishing

Hi,

I have a 10' is250 which has a decent shine in the paint.

I have some slight scratches here and there. What is the best method in getting rid of these? I am ordering a PC 7424.

What products do I need to make this shine to it's fullest?

Does polishing remove some clear/pain from a car?

yes polishing does remove some clear but very minimal hardly anything. also depending on the aggressiveness of the pad your using, that'll also dictate how much cut it'll have.

are the scratches deep enough where it'll catch your nail if you run your finger across it?
or are they swirls and cob webs?
 
@psynx: no deep scratches.
I had the hood and front bumper and driver fender re-cleared (very minor work done for a fender bender). The hood had some bird droppings that etched through so I had the shop fix that and re-clear my hood.
They also waxed/polished (don't really know which or the difference) the rest of the car. I see some minor swirls/cob webs. I want to make this thing shine it's best. Pay too much for not to shine :-)

how long ago did it get re cleared? from my understanding you should wait 60 to 90 days after a car has been re painted or re cleared before you can do any machine buffing on your paint.

a picture would help, cause most likely a body shop left rotary buffer trails and used a glaze to fill in those imperfections.

otherwise some meguiars M205 with a polishing or heavy polishing pad should be a good starting point. Also since its an import most Jap paints are known to be soft. So M205 should be fine
 
The clear was shot a week ago. I'll forward some photos soon.

Does a BMW have a better (for lack of a better word) paint job than a Jap car?

The glaze the shop may have used...does this go away after a few washes?

The shop stated they shot PPG (showed me the containers) if it matters.

1) Before sealing or waxing I would wait 6-8 weeks for the clear to cure

2) Better paint and better clear than the Japs

3) Most definitely. I would strip whatever is on there and start fresh

4) I honestly don't know if PPG produces quality products or not. They are well known, but so is Turtle Wax

Polishing will always remove clear from a vehicle. Using the least aggressive method possible should be your goal.

I just finished a 1-step polish on my repainted bumper to remove the body shop's wool pad swirls and holograms. The bumper was repainted about 30 days ago and it corrected quite easily.

Even if the damage may appear bad, start with a medium polish before reaching for a compound. For instance, the damage on my bumper was removed in just 4 passes with Sonax Perfect Finish and a LC Hydro Tech Cyan Pad.

Lastly, while it may be advised to wait 60-90 days before sealing, my understanding is that Opti-Coat 2.0 can be applied right away.
