Is that paint generally soft or hard clearcoat?



Anyone polish a Hyundai recently?

I would put it in the "normal" catagory.

They build it in the USA and as of my last information with Fountain Valley, are using PPG for their paint vendor.

Agree with Ron, pretty typical hardness. Paint is actually pretty good other than the orange peel. Really good gloss, has a thick look to the paint.

Scott, while these models are not normally produced in the States, Hyundai has a long time relationship with PPG's Korean paint partner, and the formulations are very similar.

My error, I was thinking of the Sonata, which is pure PPG, however as I corrected in a following post, Hyundai has a long term vendor relationship with a Korean paint supplier, which is in partnership with PPG.

So the formulations are very close, resulting in much the same results.

One will observe more "orange peel" on most companies lower priced models, as they do not get as long a cure time in the ovens, etc.

Costs a ton to run those things, and they are aware that most buyers are just wanting reliable transportation, not a RollsRoyce finish.

Sadly, there are many more cars that fit in the orange peel category. Even those marketed as much higher end than Hyundai.

Here's another little "tid-bit" about the industry for all.

It costs more for an automotive manufacturer to apply the paint system to a body than it does to produce the body, including the price of the metals, in mass produced vehicles.

Of course I do not include the exotics in this statement.
