2010 Honda Odyssey EX-L

Hi,



Last month I brought new 2010 Honda Odyssey EX-L, color is Polished Metal Metallic with Grey leather interior. I saw some threads in this forum related to Honda's paint saying it is soft, very soft.



I am planning to do complete detail on my new vehicle (Interior and Exterior).



Before buying any products, I would like to know some some suggestions from detailing gurus.



Can I do claying on my new Honda van?

Do I need to do polishing after claying? Is it must or I can skip this step.

What kind of waxing is good on my new Honda odyssey van.

Which Leather cleaner and conditioner is good on my leather interior.



My van is parked outside. I live in apartment.



Based on above things can anyone suggest me, how I can keep my new van in good condition all the time.

Yes you can clay it, and I think you should but just be sure to use plenty of lube and don't apply too much pressure.



It's up to you whether or not you need to polish it. If it has swirls you want to get rid of and you have a porter cable or are willing to buy one then a light polish like meguiars 205 or maybe speed glaze m80. Otherwise you can skip this and just use a wax with fillers.



A good over the counter wax to use would be Meguiars nxt 2.0. It fills swirls well, looks good, is easy to use and lasts a long time. Since it will be sitting outside you will want a long lasting wax so one of the Collinite waxes would be a good choice or if you do go through with polishing it I recommend FK1000p.



There are several threads around here about leather cleaner/conditioners and how well they work with before and after pictures. The main thing to concentrate on is keeping the leather clean rather than conditioning it. If you keep it clean then conditioning will be an afterthought.
 
The best advice I can give for keeping it in good condition all the time is to use the proper washing techniques to keep from scratching the paint. Also always try to keep the interior from getting dirty to the point where you're dreading having to clean it all out because of the size of the mess.

After going through lot of threads and videos I came up with the below list. Is it safe to use the following products on my new Odyssey. I want to skip the polishing step because I might make swirls, blemishes or haze because I will be applying with hand.

Congrats on the Odyssey! I'm on my second one. Had a '00 and now have an '08 EX-L Navi.



Honda paint isn't so soft any longer. Some cars have paint that I'd consider to be on the harder side. Folex does a good job on the carpet and can be picked up at Home Depot or Lowes. I've been using Ultima Interior Guard on the leather and am pleased with it.



Based on the size of the van and how much time it takes to detail, I go for longer lasting products. It's currently wearing FK1000P and that holds up well. Between details, I use Werkstatt Trigger for maintenance. Do you have a machine for polishing or will you be doing so by hand?
 
geohot: +1. I had a 2001 Odyssey (loved the van. 115k with no problems). My in-laws have a 2008 light blue Odyssey EX-L that is fantastic. I would echo SpoiledMan in finding a long lasting wax/sealant
 
OT: Our '00 was a tranny whore! 4 in 135k miles. Beauty is, I paid just a little more for my '08 than the '00 and the new one has a LOT more goodies in it.



Back on topic: I just ordered a new round of Werkstatt goods. I got Trigger, Gloss, Quick Wash and the wash soap. Trigger works so well and Gloss add a nice pop between Trigger applications. It also very easy to apply. It has a really bright appearance so it should really make your silver stand out.

That Deep Crystal will have you back out in the driveway in no time applying another coat! I'd not get caught up in separate products for vinyl and leather or even conditioner for that matter. You will need clay, a sealant, leather cleaner and leather protectant. You can likely find all of that on Autopia Car Care or Autogeek making for only one order. The weakness of most OTC stuff is durability.

The clay kit is a good idea and good value.



The deep crystal carnauba wax will not last long. Sitting outside you're going to be lucky to get two weeks of solid beading out of it. For the most ease of use and longest lasting protection I would again recommend Mequiars NXT 2.0



This might be just me but I think it's my feeling that probably all of those Pinnacle products are overpriced. I think that for leather the Leatherique treatment has the best reputation since you were already planning on spending a lot on that.



Also for the vinyl and rubber the best product out there is 303 Aerospace Protectant. It's a good value, lasts a long time and while you can use it on rubber seals it also gives the perfect sheen on dashboards.

What kind of polish you recomend for my new van (Polished Metal Mettalic).

I don't have a recommendation for use by hand. Being a metallic silver, it's going to he difficult to see the swirling. Be gentle to the paint and keep it protected.



My machine, Menzerna IP should do well enough to both deal with the majority of the swirls and leave the paint good enough that you can't notice the rest.

Bought a 2010 exl on 7/31/10 paid $700.00 for the protective coating package on the exterior and interior. Has anyone else done the same and how do they care for the coatings?
 
As an ex- Mazda MPV owner I find this thread interesting. No reason a minivan can't be kept just as nice as any exotic sportscar.

geohot- If you get that FK303, top it with FK1000P, it'll last a lot longer. Since minivans are kinda big, I'm a firm believer in using stuff that lasts a long, long time so you don't have to redo it very often.



Don't worry about "causing swirls" or such stuff when it comes to using a polisher. If you get the right one, and the right stuff to use with it, and apply even a room-temperature IQ to the work, it'll work out fine. It's just a "fast hand that doesn't get fatigued or sloppy".



ihave2cats- Most of the exterior coatings applied at dealerships are just synthetic sealants (i.e., man-made "waxes") and need to be "refreshed" now and then, just like any other such product. Some are OK, some are only so-so, and what's usually the most important is the skill of the guy who did the work. I have a friend who gets those packages on all her leased vehicles, and it works out fine for her (wouldn't come close to satisfying me, but that's kinda beside the point).



Don't expect miracles from the interior coating either, but it's probably better than nothing (not that there's anything wrong with nothing IMO). I'd still try to clean up any messes ASAP.



If you're happy with how the coatings work out, then you got your $700 worth. If you decide you're not all that happy, then consider it a $700 learning experience and do it yourself or pay a good pro to take care of it for you.
