The wife just got a new company vehicle delivered to the house. It rained the first couple of days while it was here and I did notice some beading. My assumption is that the dealer put a coat or two of wax on it before delivery.

While the wife was away there was very little sunshine (Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone) but the temps were good, so I thought that I would amuse myself by detailing her new company vehicle.

The victim, is a brand new 2008 Jeep Liberty, and I must admit that the dealer delivered it in pretty good condition. No swirl marks, buffer holograms, and no scratches. The worst thing that I did find on the paint was a little bit of sticker adhesive. It was nothing that a little tar remover could not take care of.

This was a two day process because I had to let the wax cure, and it was raining off and on during the first day. Also, we are under a water restriction, so I had to go to the coin-op to wash (That is always fun, and it really cramps my style).

(Note: I am keeping acronyms to a minimum on purpose to help out the less experienced Autopian)

Paint

  • Washed with Zymol Natural Car Wash (yes the stuff in AutoZone, I needed to get rid of the last of it) and the grout sponge (Thanks Spoiled-Man)
  • Clayed with Megs QD and Megs white clay (this is a weak clay, but I am surprised at how dirty it had gotten considering that this was a new vehicle.
  • Optimum Poli-seal (Polycharged, CH2 2 per oz.) by hand (had to work hard to remove this stuff; it bonded to the paint like glue. There should be no questions about whether it bonded or not.)
  • Wiped down with Megs Final Inspection
  • Applied Danase Wet Glaze with UDM (This is amazing stuff!!!)
  • Applied Soveruran Paste (Let cure overnight)
  • Next day, Wiped Down with Sonus Carnauba Spritz
  • Applied Danase Wet Glaze (2nd Coat) with UDM (Did I say that this was amazing stuff!!)
  • Wiped down with Sonus acrylic Spritz
  • Applied Opti-seal using Megs yellow foam hand applicator (Thanks ScottWax). This applicator made things a lot easier.

Glass

  • Cleaned Glass with Stoners Invisible Glass (Interior and Exterior)
  • Polished glass using Poli-seal with UDM and the included “uselessâ€ foam pad (Speed 2, light pressure). The glass had a lot of water spots that easily came out by doing this process.
  • Applied Zaino-CS to exterior glass. (I found one good use for it!)

Wheels (Tires)
  • Cleaned with P21S gel
  • Cleaned tires with Amazing Roll-Off (FS)
  • Applied Poli-seal by hand to wheels
  • Meguiars Hot Shine Tire Spray used for tires
  • Applied Opti-seal to wheels

Trim and Door Seals

  • Cleaned and dressed with #40
  • Applied Ultima Tire and Trim Guard

It turned out to be quite a bit of work for a new car, but I welcomed it. When I planned this I was hoping to achieve the best of all worlds; with high reflectivity, depth, shine, and also longevity with the little time that the good weather allowed.

Unfortunately, I did not get any sun shots because the sun kept ducking behind the clouds. I will try to take sun pics soon, if the sun comes out.

Yes- The neighbors have realized that I have OCD and yes they want for me to do their car next. Hey more business for me. :D

It's probably the best company vehicle around! looks great !...........:up

Thanks Zoom Zoom. With all these guys posting vintage Ferriaris, and Chevys it is hard to compete for "props" (and I understand why!) in the "click and brag". I am glad that you took notice thanks

Looks great - exceptional work?

Constructive criticism: Shouldn't the Souveran have been applied last? I'm betting you removed it with your next steps, or worse yet, kept the other products from bonding.

Thanks - I think....

That is a good question!! Once letting the Souveran cure overnight I could have went to either the Wet Glaze or Opti-seal. The beautiful property of Wet Glaze is that it does not contain cleaners and it bonds to sealants as well as carnaubas, so putting the Wet Glaze on top of the Souveran gave an extra pop without removing other layers. Also I added extra shine without sacrificing looks. The Opti-Seal just brought it all home with durability and locking it all in.

Wet Glaze IMO is the missing link............... It is a keeper in my detailing arsenal.

Looks great! Very nice job. Now it's time to go out and see if it's really "Trail Rated". Sad that they didn't put the 4.0 in the new Liberty.

Jeeps aren't supposed to be that clean! :)

Wet-Glaze, sure did make it look wet. Great job!

I never thought about that. :think2 Let me find a mud trail somewhere. :)

Yeah the 4.0 would have been nice. However this Jeep's main mission will be to transport the wife around so that she can do her sales gig and pick up the baby girl. The 3.7 is plenty for that.

Oh yeah I have to get use to the JEEP greetings. This is a cultural adjustment that I have to make. :)

awesome the car looks amazing

how did opti seal alter the look of souveran?

Thanks. It means a lot.

Soveran really helped in the depth area. I added the Wet Glaze after the Soveran and the Wet glaze added some additional pop so you could really see the flakes in the paint stand out. The opti-seal added reflectivity mostly from what I could see, and also extra durability.

Awesome colour! I really like the way they moved the lights to the middle on the Jeep.

Im glad you liked the Optiseal, it will bead like that for about 3 months from just one coat!

I have a question, did you see any marks a day or so after you applied OS? When i apply it, sometimes i can see the direction i moved the foam app in, goes away after the rain.

Great stuff and im glad it worked, you have an awesome car!

DIESELMDX, the Optiseal really helps preseve the PS look, it turns it from a 3 week wax to a 3 month wax! Of course you can apply Wet glaze over the OS and the OS again if you want! It will make it look wetter, but will take away from the PS look.

I did see some marks from the optiseal, but I waited a day and just wiped those areas with a damp MF towel. I think that I used too much in those areas. The Meguiars foam did help in makeing this application a whole lot easier than past applications though.

Thanks Geoff for the product selections and idea. I was very pleased with the results.

Nice looking Liberty! I love these little Jeeps but I like the older libertys better. Mostly b/c I drive one. :cooleek:

Cleaned mine up some. Its got NXT that is around 2 months old so its about time for another coat but Ive not had time, and its cold.

Tried Megs Hot Tire Shine Gel for the first today and I must say it looks pretty good. It takes longer to put that on than the old HTS or ASD but it should last alot longer. Seems about the same as Endurance but Endurance is alot shinier.

Got a heated garage, but I dont have ONR and its giving freezing temps as highs all week. Ill tough out washing it while the water freezes on the paint and dry it in the garage or something.

Should be able to get a coat on it this week sometime.
