2008 Black Yukon Denali paint healing

Ok, I have read all the threads on Stongard and Xpel and have no doubts about their protective qualities. I am taking delivery of a red S2000 and will be using the combination of AIO/SG/Souveran. This car is not a daily driver and will not see much if any driving in the rain. But I guess paint chips can happen any time and any where. Since I've also read all the comments about the depth of color using Souveran, wouldn't it be distracting to see the panels with Stongard on it? Obviously there will be a difference in the reflectivity of the color. I guess it is a trade off, paint protection vs. color clarity. The kit for the S2000 isn't cheap, about $500, so I don't want to apply it, hate it and end up pulling it off. What do you think?

As much as I appreciate the Xpel I would not put it on the top of the hood of my S4 because I didn't like seeing the "line" where the Xpel stopped. I did not put it on the Boxster for the same reason...it has a long smooth seamless front end and to add a line would be unsightly.

I WOULD add it to any car that had some sort of natural cutoff or body line that made the Xpel line look more natural. Going from the vertical plane to the horizontal plane of a bumper, for instance. Or where there is a sharp contour line on the body. The S2000 seems to be a design that might lend itself nicely to Xpel. You would have to see where the kit fits.

I am just REALLY picky about such things. Many more of my friends are quite happy with the kit no matter where it fits.

and yes, at certain angles you can see the line where the xpel stops, but personally, I would rather see that line than several rock chips on the hood. I don't see a drop off in shine/clarity where the xpel is applied IMO. I treat the xpel like a painted surface and protect it with a sealant just like any other part of the car. I use Zaino on the BMW (silver) with the xpel on it and am extremely happy with it.

Thanks for the input. Only thing I see (yeah pun intended) is that both of your S4 and 330i are silver and the Xpel is less noticeable on that color than on a black or red car. I like the idea of leaving the panel off the hood and at least eliminating that seam line.

The client is a mod on Autopia. He is from the Big Easy and wanted this black beast looking right when they flew in to pick it up.

The client made arrangments for me to detail it at the dealership where he purchased it from. I arrived at 7:30a, gauged the paint and let the client know that there was no sign of any repainted panels.

After a QEW wash and 3x straight IPA wipedowns:

After:
M105/surbuf/G110v2 speed 5
M205/black classic LC flat/G110v2 speed 5

I was not 100% happy with the finish that just a 2 step polish was leaving on this PITA GM black paint. So my actual process on all the painted areas was the following:

M105/surbuf/G110v2 speed 5
M205/orange classic LC flat/G110v2 speed 5
M205/black classic LC flat/G110v2 speed 5

I did a wipedown with M34 to remove some dust and applied a coat of Blackfire wetdiamond.

Prior to leaving the dealership at midnight.

There where a few things that I did not have to finish. The client would bring the Denali down to my place after they flew in and picked it up. Got them setup with a place to eat and see a movie close by. They decided to stay in the area and start out the next day early.

While I double checked everything and finished up on the exterior. My wife was kind enough to vacuum the interior. The carpet or mats did not appear to be that dirty. I brushed the mats and blew then with compressed air. Went over them with the shop vac. They did not pass my wife's test:

So it was time to break out the heavy hitter. Our new Dyson DC28. Amy went over the mats many times. There was still some sand coming out of the mats. Shook them out and beat them till they cried. Went over them again with the Dyson.

This is how much sand the dyson pulled out of the mats. Plus what was shook out into the basket could of filled a sand box.

The dash and most of the hard plastics had a nice coat of 20w-50 that the auction detailers apply to every car that the dealership buys. I cleaned that off with IZ Plastik-Reiniger and followed with 1Z Tiefenpfleger.

Leather got Zaino Z9/10.

Sorry no finished pics of the interior.

I did a 2BM wash, cleaned the tires with ARO 1:1, wheels cleaned with MWB. Tires got Zaino Z-16. Windshield got Aquapel.

Bryan,
Another beautiful job with the P/C - what size pads did you use for the majority of the work?

Cant believe the paint quality - before - looked like Hologram-Nation or something. :)

I know about the sand - its a real paint since its so fine and heavy or something - even my Metro 4hp vacuum has a real hard time getting it up. I have sometimes taken the mats to a flat safe surface and hit them against it awhile to help dislodge the stuff - looks like the Dyson really does work then.
Now I need to figure out - how many details to be able to buy one??? :)

Sounds and looks like you are the guru of the Meguiars G110V2, are you having any problems with the machine at all ?

Thanks again for all our awesome work and posts !

Dan, Thank you! All of my LC pads are 6.5" flats. The surbuf are 7".

We got the dyson half off and it was still pricey IMO. It is an incredible machine.

The G110v2 has been flawless. I like it very much!

Looking great Bryan.

Incredible job on the paint correction.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Luke!

Nice job Bryan & Amy...That thing was a mess

Thank you Flash!

Hey Bryan.... the Denali turned out great! I have a customer that has one identical to that one. Nice vehicle and nice work!:D

Thanks Bill! Have been considering getting one for the wife in a few years, but not sure if we want another gas hog.

They're not bad for gas on the hiway; in town not so good!

For a daily driver I sure wouldn't want a black one!!!

My Denali 1500 (same 6.2 as this YD) gets 13/17. While the wifes 99 740il gets 19/24. So its still a way off, but I'm thinking another 7 series will be in the garage.
