2006 RX330 revisited 365 days later

Car was in very good shape both in & out.

Exactly 1 year ago I prepped this car and used FK1 #2180 to protect it. 2 days later i went back and applied another layer of #2180. I then casually told the owner that the protection will last about a year.

Normally I detail their cars about every 3 months.

So he did't call me for a whole year!!! Boy, am I a bad business man?. :furious:

I can tell you that FK1's claim of 12 months is right on and this car sits outside 24/7. The paint still felt pretty good.

Today I washed it

spot clay (sap)

aio pc green light cut FK1 pad speed 6

FK1 #1000 Sealant pc blue propel pd speed 3

TOL's Grape dressing x2 on tires

FK1 #108 on plastic trim

I will not mention the inside story, since I didn't take pictures and I didn't have the key to move the car to get better pictures.

Very wet and flakey. Good to know about the durability of the 2180, as I just ordered some.

Thanks Poppa!

As FK1 recommends: For maximum protection, use 2180 and top it with 1000. You also get an extremely slick surface.

Hahaha that car has a lot of dandruff (flakes). I'm just being silly but the car looks like a million bucks. And youre not being a bad salesman, youre just an honest salesman.

thomas, great work as always.

Look at the registration stickers (years) on that front plate! holy cow - your soposed to put the new one ontop of the old one, not collect them! :)

Car looks great!

I'll be doing a follow-up this weekend on an RX330 I detailed 2 - 3 months back. I used 2180 on it so I was looking forward to seeing how it's held up. After hearing about 12 months, I guess 2 - 3 should be nothing. I'll likely just throw a coat of Natty's or Pink Wax on.

Great Job on that Lexus RX330! I can also definately say that 2180 and 1000p is the most durable finish there is! 3 coats of 1000p and 2 coats of pink wax looks like an extra clear coat. The impressive part is that it does not marr when there is dirt on it unlike other sealers and waxes. I really see 1000p exceeding a year with proper washes...no doubt.

Thanks RD - now that the weather is cool, I am using them more and more. I did a 2001 Saab and a 2002 M3 (light metalic green/silver) and did OC orange pad 2180 and OCW.

Both came out superb. Didn't take afters - 10 hours later I just wanted to go home. :D

It looks very good but I doubt a sealant can last that long, ie. 12 months. That goes against a lot of experience and learning I've acquired in detailing. Six months perhaps but not in an outside 24/7 car. Just too much going on.

Until you try it - FK1 does things differently. If I saw you write it, and I haven't tried it I'd say the same thing.

Do you want to test it on your car?

tdekany, from your experience...do you think AIO/SG performs less than 215 -or-218/2180 in the looks & durability dept?
