Hey all, I just cleaned my factory rims which are clear coated. I noticed that the brake dust came off easily with a sponge but that some of the dust particles are pretty stingy to get off. Some seem to be actually imbedded into the clear coat. I have waxed them in the past with carnuaba and also Klasse AIO. What if I tried NU Finish on the rims. I heard that it's mildly abrasive which would be ok on the rims and that it lasts a pretty long time. Any thoughts on this stuff? Thanks all. You can try a clay bar, that will sometimes remove some of the embedded particles from the clear on the rim without using harsh abrasives. I am not really a fan of NuFinish, if you already have Klasse I would just go with that on the rims. :up
 
Try some clay - when I find dust that AIO won't get out, I just break out a very small piece of clay I've got reserved for the rims. Usually works like a charm.
 
I suppose NuFinish would work on the wheels, as it contains strong cleaners and help protect them as well. But, since you already have Klasse, try adding a couple coats of SG to the rims after they're all clean. A carnauba would probably be a waste on rims because the heat generated would melt it off in no time.
 
When AIO won't work on my clearcoated rims, I try PPCL and 3M stuff (how ever abrasive you feel you need to go). It didn't get off all of it, but most of it, to where it looked nice. Clay didn't do much for it, but I think it was my clay rather than clay in general. Experiment and share with us what works. One thing I noticed is that WD-40 type products were found to take of regular brake dust more than the really expensive P21S wheel cleaner (not gel) that I bought (which I was disappointed about). I wouldn't make it a habbit of using it on your wheels, but I supposed a few times won't hurt anything.



I prefer mothers clearcoat wheel polish. It is a very mild abrasive and works well with enough elbow grease. See my review of it in the product review section. Follow up with a sealant for best results and easy future cleaning.
 
Turtle Wax Finish 2001 which is almost identical to NuFinish, did not remove all of the brake dust on my rims. More than AIO but still needed to use a polish to get rid of the rest. I always have used wax, AIO or SG on my rims but for some reason the brake dust always seems to stick.
 
NuFinish is a cheap alternative to AIO or SG and has really strong cleaners that should take care of all your baked on brake dust.

It helped me remove some greasy invisible spots that attracted dirt, no wheel cleaner was able to do that.

It's good to use it as a cleaner and you can follow up with SG for more protection.

I tried NuFinish some 2 weeks ago and will post how long it lasts.
 
Yeah, nufinish is semi cheep stuff but i can't justify putting AIO or SG on my wheels. Not that my rims aren't worth it, it's just Klasse is so damn expensive that I am trying to find something else to put on the wheels. Some of you suggested Mother's wheel polish, some turtle wax. Maybe I will put Meguiar's # 20 on them. Actually, that isn't too cheep either! Is that Mother's stuff really good? I might try that instead. :xyxthumbs
 
Today I washed washed a Black Audi A6 that I had Zainoed 2 weeks ago. THe rims were perfect after a zaino wash. Not a spec on it. Makes work o much easier. I plan to Klasse the windows soon.
 
I only reKlasse my wheels twice a year and it doesn't take much, works well. You guys know that you shouldn't use wheel cleaner on Klassed rims right? Either way, a good wax or sealant should help prevent sticking, otherwise try the Rain-X wheel protectant :D
 
Cliff330i, if you have Klasse, use it on your wheels, there are many good looking cars that are spoiled by dirt or not very shinny wheels.

The owner of this low production Ford GTX1(1 of 35 built) contacted me and wanted this beast dialed in for an indoor car show.. He didn't have time to pick it up himself and asked me to drive it to the show for him...of course I obliged.

This GTX1 is heavily modded with carbon fiber pieces, vertical door hinges custom built for this actual car, custom exhaust and a huge Whipple supercharger making 850RWHP compared to a standard GTX1 @ 700 FWHP.
The rear clamshell is also motorized.

That is an awesome car, Richie. So when you say delivered, you got to drive it? Must have been an incredible experience.
 
Car was pretty cool, I'd love to hear it at the track. I didn't care much for the interior, I think on a car like that Ford could have done better than a 77 TransAm knock-off.
