Why does it marr so easily?

Good question as that would seem to be a contradiction.

Mike Phillips and I discussed this over at MOL back when he started getting swamped with 'vette owners complaining about the apparent contradiction and we decided that that's all it is, an *apparent* contradiction. As the philosopher said, there are no true contradictions, you just gotta check your premises ;)

Turns out the paint on Corvettes is harder than many clears, but it's not all *that* hard. But the stuff that gets rubbed against paint, causing marring, often *is* that hard.

It's all relative and the stuff that mars automotive paint is gonna mar it no matter how tough it is. The Spies-Hecker paint on Audis is about the same as the clear on my C5 was, and some have even compared it with CeramiClear, yet my Audis mar almost as easily as my cars with softer paint. The extra hardness gives you a slight margin for error, but that's about it.

Consider that single stage white is the hardest paint there is, period. Yet even white paints like the old Dupont Imron get marred pretty easily. You can't really polish the marring out, but you can sure instill it.
