So... here's my question:

What product do you guys recommend to remove swirl marks? There are some minor scratches on it too, but swirl marks are my main concern.

From what I read the normal process is:

1) Wash

2) Clay

3) Remove swirls

4) coat of wax

5) buff

4) coat of wax

6) buff

Thanks again! :) :getdown

It depends on how bad the swirls are...If you could, take some pictures of the swirls so we can suggest products based on the condition of the vehicle. Always start from the least abrasive and work your way up if needed to find the best combo to use.

-Also are you working by hand or with a Porter Cable??

Well, I'll have a buddy help me who has experience with the orbital waxer. I've never used one, so perhaps I'll get a chance to learn from him.

I'll try to take a picture of the marks tonight.

As was suggested, use the DSLR to take some up close swirl shots. VW clear is hard, so I'd suggest getting Menzerna IP(with Orange LC pad), and FPII(White LC pad). It takes a while so be patient.

Touareg looks great, cannot wait to see detail after pics.

DBP R-32 :2thumbs: I love those! Great color too!

The R-32 makes my GTI feel so lame. :(

I'm just stunned by your photography. Care to share some secrets with us :)?

For products, I'd first check out: www.bettercarcare.com for some excellent reading.

I usually use all Menzerna polishes and Zaino Z2 Pro/Z5 to seal.

Great pics!

I hope by orbital you mean your friend has a Porter Cable because if it is one of those huge cheapie orbitals, you are better off working by hand.

Optimum and Menzerna make great polishes, I'd probably go the carnauba route since your Touareg appears to be black or at least a dark grey.

What are your goals for protection and appearance? Maximum protection? Best appearance? Best combination of the two?

I gotta say that the PS'd DoF looks rather fake, but wicked ride :D

:D Yeah, a couple of the full car shots have that in there, but the close-up work is all done with the 50mm 1.8 and the DOF on those is real. :getdown

I need a fast 80mm, perhaps an L series.. mmmmmmm :woohoo:

And thanks for the compliments. I do more photography than just cars, but obviously taking pictures of the new baby is always fun. :)
