2005 Mustang Help

Alright guys (and ladies if there are any), I own a 2005 Mustang as the title suggests. After Hurricane Katrina, we were without water and power for quite some time, so that car was neglected sadly. The paint now has what looks to be bad water spots. Hard stains like. I tried some clay bar from I believe mothers, but my guess is, is that it is not near aggressive enough for the problem. The WHOLE CAR has this. I wish I could say I wash it regularly (at least once a week) but I'm not going to lie.

What can I do to rid of this? I will take some pictures tomorrow, if I can capture the spots. It literally looks like a lot of water spots.

I'm not too experienced on the machine polishing, but I think that is what it will take to get it done. Please let me know what you guys think I should buy, where to buy it, and about how much I should look to spend if possible.

Hey there! Welcome to Autopia! Where are you at down south, I was in Gulfport after the hurricane helping out and seen a lot of 05 Mustangs driving around. Maybe one was you :LOLOL

For the a machine I would look at getting the Porter Cable which is a Random Orbital Buffer:

Porter Cable Variable Speed Random-Orbit Polisher

Some Lake Country Pads:

6.5" Foam Flat Pads by Lake Country

And the 6 Inch Hook and Loop Backing Plate

Then for polishes maybe the Optimum Trio to get your finish looking perfect...

Optimum Polish/Compound Package

Or try a chemical cleaner like Klasse AIO

I know Optimum was suppose to be introducing a new Waterspot Remover soon so if anyone else has information on this maybe you can just wait and get that product.

is there somewhere you can get something comparible to the PC, for cheaper? I know I know, 150 isnt THAT much to save your paint.....but I have plenty of projects that eat my money.

oh, and im from Hattiesburg Mississippi. About an hour from gulfport.

Lowes use to carry them for $100 but now I believe online Danase is probably the cheapest and you also get a 10% Autopian discount. Some have reported lower prices like $47 at Lowes because they are no longer going to be stocking them. If you have a Lowes nearby maybe there will be one left??

I will look into it. I just don't think I can spend 250-300 bucks to get the car back how I want it right now.

If the water spots are the only thing bothering you...You could always try Klasse AIO with a hand applicator (white pad).

Wolfgang Polishin’ Pal is an ergonomically shaped urethane handle that holds specially designed foam pads using hooks & loops.

Klasse AIO This polish works best when coupled with another great Klasse product follow with Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze.

Do you think this stuff would do what a clay bar would do? I went at my car for a while with a clay bar with little to no results. What is the best to use to strip wax off, so I am cleaning the actual paint, and not a layer of wax lol.

With the Klasse it will strip your wax and it cleans your paint with chemical cleaners. A clay bar doesn't have any chemicals or anything it it, it just picks up debris, etc from your paint so the chemical cleaners may be just what you need.

Saywhat, I use to live in Petal,MS back between 76 and 80. I'm in Pontotoc now. There were some posts on here where guys have posted their reciepts from Lowe's where they had gotten a PC for $47 and $59. Some of the stores are price matching or giving discounts. Good luck to ya. I too own an 05 Mustang. Welcome to Autopia. Check out the search here too.

Oh, well then I may just give it a try. I take it I use that with the white pad you suggested? And wax afterward? I have some mothers carnuba I believe, would this be fine to use?

I recommend getting the PC and at least an orange light cutting pad and a white polishing pad. These are the most popular and are used the most. For polishes I highly recommend the Optimum line. NO dusting and can be worked in for a long period of time without drying out. Very user friendly too.

After the polish just top with your favority sealant or wax.

Yes the white pad should work best with the Klasse. I have never used Mothers wax before but I am sure it will work just fine, they have great over the counter products. I remember a while back people mentioning their "Reflections Advanced Top Coat" was a great product. Good luck!! Don't forget to take pictures if you are able to!! :)

Or you could get really lucky like I did: http://autopia.org/forum/machine-polishing/83680-picked-up-pc7336-best-price-ive-seen.html

they didnt have ANY buffers. well...one, but it was just a single speed like 10 inch task force. guess I will try the stuff mentioned, and then rewax.

I'll place a very large bet that those "water spots" are really acid rain etching. The only way to possibly remove them is through wet sanding. Ford (especially Mustangs) have a major acid rain problem. They have for decades and they can't figure out how to eliminate them. I personally think they need to move the plant where they're assembled. Out of Michigan, the acid rain capitol of America. My company does dozens of acid rain repairs yearly for several new car dealerships in the metro Detroit area.

is this something i can take up with ford? ive already had one bath done....

I'd check with them. I think they just warranty their paint for 1 year. When did you take delivery of it? If they do cover it, then you'll be faced with someone possibly hacking up your paint. You're burning the candle at both ends.
