Hey guys, this is a friend of mines car, to say the least, its very, very fast :lol Although a lot of the paint was not cooperating, The trunk lid, front bumper, hood, and the roof were all a breeze with the combo's that I was using...

But, when I started polishing the doors and fenders I was encountering a LOT of micromarring for some reason, it seemed like the polish was just eliminating the major marring but putting in more micromarring of its own, I was very unhappy with 1 or 2 panels but there was nothing I could do with the PC!!!! The poliseal and white pad really helped this but it only minimized the effects, but the paint almost seemed to soak up the polish and it was extremely hard to remove :nervous2: I really think its time for me to step up to a rotary and learn how to do it right, I'm tired of having to spend 8 hours to correct a car like this :o Anyways, here are some pictures

great improvement on that paint. did you dress the tires after the pics...or is that not done on a race car like that?

I wouldn't call it a full out RACE car...The car doesn't have a roll cage, it still drives fine on the street, he took me for a ride in it when I was done, and its not loud until he gets on it, the auto tranny shifts pretty smooth and on a 93 octane tune (he was running 110 octane the day I was there I believe, and was also running quite a good amount of boost :woohoo: ) you could drive this car daily!! But no, I didn't dress the tires after I took the pics, I didn't want the slicks/skinnies to have gel or anything on them, and the owner agreed

I have an '05 Mustang and I seem to get a lot of micromarring after polishing w/ the PC as well...I can't see that I'm doing anything that would cause it. Maybe it's ford paint?

It was also kind of a mystery to me, I checked/rechecked all of my pads, polishes, spray lube, etc, and I just couldn't seem to get anything to work?! Funny thing is, I detailed a different 04 Black Cobra and I didn't have much of a problem with micromarring?! :nixweiss

i dont understand your process...why did you use only speed 5 on the cutting step with a PC? and why OC on a yellow, then OP on a orange? why not OC Yellow, OC orange, OP white, PS white or finishing pad? seems like it would have given you better results and cleaned up the micromarring you were getting....but without being there I dont know for sure...

Ok, well I did try the exact same process on one of the front fenders, (the reason why I didn't use the OC/Yellow on the whole car was because the marring was coming out fairly easy with the OC/Orange so I didn't want to cut too much) I went with the OC on the yellow, OC on the orange (both worked in at 6) and both fully broken down, then I tried to clean it up with the OP/Orange pad and the OP/Orange seemed to help a little, I did fully break down the polish , and it still had not taken the marring out, sometimes it seemed that the orange/OP seemed to add micromarring, but my pad was totally fresh, my products are almost brand new, and I wipe down the panel right before I go to polish so I'm not sure what went wrong... and as I said before, the Poliseal/white pad seemed to help but I don't know, I've never encountered any micromarring as bad as in this car:think:

You forgot the part of the process where you take those 600KB images down something reasonable. Geez, I'll have to trade in the cable modem for T3.

Looks much better in the afters. :)

I'd have done another polishing step with OP using a white polishing pad, I've found black Ford paint is prone to micromarring and have to follow with OP or Meguiars #80 and a polishing pad if I have to use a cutting pad first.

MMMmmmmmm horsepower......... :)

Oh.. nice detail job too. ;)

The stripes look out of place but I cant say I wouldnt drive it. Any idea what kind of power it makes?

I didn't ask, but on 29lbs of boost and 110 octane I'm sure it makes close to a 1000, if not more :D

Sweet car, I know someone with a n/a black cobra and it's pretty sweet stuff. I might be doing a detail on it sometime or another. How did you like using the optimum polishes on the cobra? I just ordered some hyper, compound, and polish from obsessivedetail and can't wait to try it out.

Good correction work on an impressive looking car there mate.

Personally, I too would have stepped to using OP on a polishing pad to see if that cleared up the marring or stepped to a lighter abrasive than OP - something like #80 as Scottwax suggests or something like Menzerna Final Finish.

Personally, I dont really use the PC anymore for any defect correction, all the work I do is by rotary as I personally feel I get better, more crytsal clear results from the rotary, especially on solid dark colours... Just my personal feeling though. If you feel like trading up to the rotart, get yourself some scrap panels to practice with to hone your finishing techniques, as once you have mastered finishing with the rotary, the PC will stay in its box. :)
