2003 Honda S2000 detailed in sub-zero temps

28* today with a windchill around 10*. Once the sun went down (final 1/2 hour of working), the spray detailers began to flash-freeze. A cold day, but a good one.

The vehicle is a 2003 Honda S2000 with only 2900 miles on it. It sat outside for over a year and accumulated a ton of bonded contaminants :(. The owner cares dearly for his vehicles (he was the owner of the purple teg I did a couple months back). The car was in fairly good shape and already Klasse'd. It is garaged full-time now, but the owner wanted the swirls and bonded contaminants (black/rust dots) removed. Here's what I did:

Clean

-Optimum No Rinse Wash

-Optimum Clay with No Rinse Wash as lube (took a signifigant amount of time)

-Wheel Brightener cut 2:1 on wheels and in wells

Defect Removal

-Hi-Temp Heavy Cut via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1500 rpm

-Menzerna FPII via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm

-Poorboy's Polish with Sealant on windows, inside fender paint, exhaust pipes, and entire rear plate area

Protect

-Zaino Z2 Pro on all paint and lighting

-Poorboy's Wheel Sealant on wheels

-Chemical Guys VRT on trim and tires

-CD-2 Engine Detailer in wells

-Zaino Z8 to touch-up

Nice work Sean!! Wow, a nearly 3 year old car with only 2900 miles on it. That car really does just sit in the driveway. An S2000 is too much fun to drive for one to just sit around like that.

twitch: You get used to it :).

Zane: I still have some playing to do, but they seem very similar with the few uses I have tried.

Mike: He's the second owner (bought a couple weeks ago). The first owner pretty much never drove it. I agree, an S2000 is a pure driver's car. With that, he uses it as often as possible since his purchase :).

It was frigid today!

Why the High Temp? No Power Gloss? Seems new for you. Was it *that* bad it required such a leveler? Seems kind of harsh, or is it just the name? I don't know much about it.

I'm assuming the Meguiar's aggressive clay that you normally use.

Great job though!

Nice job :2thumbs:

Man, with the temp, I bet water freeze up within minutes. I was about to wash my car, but damn too cold.

Nice work Sean! Always love to view your C&B threads. Also, love the fisheye shot of the front end. It really looks like it's smiling now that it's all clean and looking good! :chuckle:

Thanks all :).

Seth: I've used HT Heavy Cut on a few cars now. I like it for my light cut compound. It cuts a little bit more than Optimum Polish and a bit under Powergloss. I'd say its about a 6 out of 10. For those swirls, it cut them up pretty nicely. The hood needed 2 passes.

I decided to stick with the Opt clay today.

It was actually that cold here in Dallas today, except for the windchill. We had freezing rain and drizzle and actually had to remove the ice from the demostration cars at the Meguiars training session this morning! I seriously can't imagine having done a complete, multi-step exterior detail in those temps, my hat is off to you Sean.

Awesome work on the car too, incredible reflections on white!

Another awesome piece of work from you :xyxthumbs . I cannot actually imagine working in such low temperature, in my place you get either sun or rain.

I have got a couple of questions, which product in the Hi-Temp product range is as aggressive as Power Gloss ? And mixing wheel brightener 2:1 (recommanded 4:1) do you find it too strong ?

Hello Sean...As always I enjoy seeing your masterpieces! I really enjoy using L.C. pads with my PC. Do you use 6.5" or 7.5" with the rotary? I have never tried anything larger than 6.5"...Again, great work!

Great work, you'd do just fine over here in Scotland in winter! On second thoughts, you'd simply show us up! Keep up the fantastic work. :xyxthumbs

I haven't found the 2:1 combo of Wheel Brightener to be too strong. No ill effects thus far. For this job, I rinsed it with the Optimum Wash Solution.

rw3829: I use 7.5" concaved pads.

Thanks everyone.
