2002 Camaro Z28 with Meguiars Paint Protect 365

WHOA! They took the engine?!?!? That's nuts. Sorry for this loss.

And, if you don't mind, my 2 cents about the insurance claim. Chances are they will deem it a total loss. I'm sure the cost of the replacement engine and trans will be more than the value of the car. Throw in the doors and other parts, and I'm quite sure.

I've had a couple of Camaros, and my 93 Z28 was stolen from me. Never saw it again.

Yeah more than likely this is going to be totaled.

You know what really got me is that the police found the car a day and half later and all they said was that the doors and lights were missing. I told my dad that does not sound right. These crooks would be stupid to not take the LS1 and the trans. I told my dad to be prepared because more than likely those two things are gone. Sure enough that is what he saw yesterday. He had a little hope that it was still somewhat intact based on what he was told by the police.

I was personally upset with the police making that comment. How can they be sure when they didn't look under the hood. I can understand that they have other priorities than a stolen car. But it is simple logic. This is where my engineering background kicked in about logic.

The crooks that took it were pro's. They will get what's coming to them. I'm a believer in karma.

I didn't realize that my dad had it for 8 years. He got closure yesterday and his personal belongings which were not touched. It's just sad the way the car went especially after all the hard work that was put into it.

In my family we tend to not take things seriously which is a good thing. My brother was clowning around and asked, "the most important question I have is, was it still beading?"

On to the next vehicle.

OUCH... they gave him hope. That's bad, man. But yeah, they don't care so much about stolen cars. Too much other crap going on.

I too, believe in karma. It always seems to catch up to people.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I picked up a 1997 Camaro that was deemed a total loss. Car was fine, just vandalized with paint. Shortly after the insurance company paid out the claim, it had rained and washed most of the paint off! I got it, rubbed out as much as I could to make it look better (and it did). Then I swapped in all the leather from an '02 Super Sport 35th Anni edition. Seats, and door panels - oh, and the wheels too. I sold it off to a friend who wrecked it. He just let it go on lien sale at the tow yard. I was pissed. We could have sold off those parts for a decent chunk. Plus all the work I put into it!!

They took the engine and the doors, honestly, that's kind of impressive, and like you said, definitely pro's did that.

With that level of theft, they might have been staking out the car for a while, scouting it out.

Reading this thread I was looking for an update on your polish and sealant. Then I get this.
What a shame. Ruined my day.
I hope they catch them.

You cant have anything nice unless you have a car cover (if its outside), an alarm/s, a big German Shepherd dog, and a way to tell you if they pull up with a dang tow truck to hook it and go... :( :( :(

There are a group of thieves out there that specialize in engine and transmission removal, and usually they dont wreck the rest of the car..
You might check out CraigsList and see if all your parts are for sale on there..

If not, they had a buyer already lined up to put them all into his car...

I hate this stuff...

Reminded me of a long time ago, I had a new Buick Grand National and eventually let it go for more normal cars with kids and all...

The guy that bought it had it parked in his driveway, and someone stole it, took out the engine and transmission, and BURNED the entire car... :(

Yeah, a big Karma surprise is coming to all those boys....

Sorry again, Mike and Dad...

As someone who has owned three 4th gen camaros this is sad to see, especially an NBM which is one of the two best looking colors on the camaros (along with SOM). Hopefully in the end everything works out for your dad.

Wow that's crazy! Very sorry to hear about this Mike, hopefully retribution comes sooner rather than later for these crooks. It's good to stay positive, keep us updated on your dad's plans for the next car, the one thing to look forward to is you'll get a completely new canvas to work your magic on.

Great attitude Loach. I hope Insurance covers the new car.
This is really a sad story; but it's also an example of living in the big city near a border where guys can sell parts.
I lived in the LA metroplex for 25 years. Glad I got transferred to AZ.
