2000 Volvo S40 1.9T

Here it goes. My neighbors think I'm nuts because I am out there every day doing something to my car.



I aquired the car 2 years ago from a soccer mom with a cool 88,000 miles. Over the next year I spent over $2,000 in repairs. :angry



Anyways, one day I was looking at the finish I could see what looked like water spots ALL OVER. They would not come off no matter how hard I scrubbed. (:soscared:)



Then I found Autopia. And I buffed the entire car with ScratchX...twice.



RESULTS:

Sort of a 50/50 after the first application of ScratchX

Final results after application of 3 coats of Poorboys EXP sealant, 2 coats Natty's Red, and 2 coats of Autoglym HD wax.



Keep in mind this is 10 year old paint with *no* clear coat left.:(

Essentially by hand, I do have an el cheapo Black and Decker 6" random orbital. Makes it easier to do the dirty work.



I have found I got a much more even coat of wax by hand waxing with the included Autoglym sponges.
 
I'm not sure if the Diet Pepsi is going to last that long :D



Serious dedication btw, I wouldnt have had the patience to do that by hand. Nice work!



Now all you need is to graduate to a PCXP...

It's my belief that if you take care of your stuff it'll take care of you later on. I believe that I could sell my car for more today than I bought it for. :woot2:





2000 S40 with only 93,000 miles has gotta be worth a decent amount.
 
You made the statement that the car was ten years old with no clearcoat left. Why do you think there was no clear left? You would have never obtained that result if there were no clearcoat left. If you did this work purely by hand, my hat is OFF to you. Volvos have VERY GOOD paint on them. I have customers with 20 and thirty year old Volvos that look like brand new. Swedes know how to paint cars. Great job on that Volvo!
 
FYI-Age has little or nothing to do with clearcoat going away. Unless someone is compounding it too often. Your Volvo does not need to be compounded and noone beat it with compound over the years. If they did it would have shown severe fading. If the paint was not chaulked or pink it did not suffer badly.

I was under the impression that if your buffing pads come out the color of your car after applying product that means your clear is gone.



Is this not the case?



All of my pads with the exception of the final wax one came out red.





And a major part of the work was done by hand, but I do have a cheapy random orbital just to tackle the really dirty work.

Nice job! The paintwork is probably single stage paintwork hence the transfer of colour on to your pads.



Incidently the S40 was made in the Netherlands at the Nedcar plant where the Mitsubishi Carisma was made, which is more or less the same car. A few were later produced out in Thailand.

Car's paint is in great shape as seen earlier in this thread. Car is mechanically is sound. Leaks/ burns NO oil. Leaks/ burns NO coolant. 4-spd automatic transmission shifts normally and has had a fluid flush and fill within the last year.



Car has 93,000 original miles. I am the second owner. Car is lightly modified including a cone air filter and heatshield and the Konig Twilite rims. Other than this it is completely stock. I can bring the car back to stock very easily if you would prefer.

Not trying to brag, but I just sold this car for $5,250 today.

That's only $450 less than I paid for it 2 years ago.
