2000 Red vette Menzerna PG, IP, FPII and AJ 56k no way

She had a few swirls to say the least.

This was my 2nd time using my new hitachi rotary so I knew it was going to take a while. I started with a small section of the hood trying the following:



Excel orange pad and PG at 1500 4-5x-not much reduction at all.

3M foam compounding waffle pad/PG/1500 3x-Better but still not getting it done.

Milwaukee twisted wool pad Megs #4 heavy cut/1600-2x she is cutting very well now. I only had one pad and knew the #4 was going to get it done. I did the hood and roof w/ this combo.



I only had so much #4 left so I cleaned the wool pad and switched to PG. There seemed to be less micro-marring with the PG then there was with the #4.

So the final process was:

Megs #4 or PG with wool at 1600

IP w/ Foam waffle compounding pad at 1500

FPII with green excel pad PC6

Prime by PC4 w/ blue excel pad

AJx2 w/ AG after each coat.

Wheels got prime (thx Rickrack for this idea)

Tires got mothers FX

Tips got bluemagic polish

Glass IG pump



Interior

Wipedown w/ AM777 APC 10-1

Lite colored trim got Mr clean magic eraser APC 10-1

Drivers seat leather got Mr clean magic eraser APC 10-1 then z-9

Pass seat z-9

All leather Z-10

303 on all trim

Mats got cleaned with Hoover upright scrubber and treated with 303 fabric guard

Looks like I need to find a better way to apply mothers FX on the tires, any comments?

Amazing...All that work really paid off! As for the tires, I dont know if you are set on using FX...but when I tried my free sample from megs. of Insane Tire Spray I was blown away...I sprayed it on the tires, let it sit for about 2 minutes, then buffed off. and here is the result:

Ive never used FX before so I cant help with the method sorry....Nice to see that sun shinin finally huh? We were at 70 one day last week and the next it was 30 and snowing. Cant wait till spring/summer to see more of your work.
 
Product comments:



Menzerna with rotary dust like crazy, but we all know that.



Megs #4 dust is worst then menzerna and leaves more micro-marring.



Prime-leaves the surface very slick and it did the same for the wheels. Very little prime on the wheels will get the job done.



AJ-I did the first coat in the evening and the last coat the following am. Being so late and dark out I was not that impressed at first under the garage light w/ the frist coat. The next morning with sunlight it looked much better. I did the first coat using the Scottwax method (worked it in with a foam pad one section at a time, then removed w/ MF) it took about an hour to do this and QD after with AG. The next day I did the spray, buff and remove with MF. Faster but you use alot more product. I can't get the AJ to spray out in a fine mist with any bottle I tried.



AG-adds slightly to the shine and slickness.



Overall I would say the prime/AJ/AG is very slick.



I told the owner to come back in a few weeks and we will apply a few coats of CJ. If I remember right AJ should be given a little time to cure before CJ is applied as a topper.

Thanks Josh! Looks like the megs worked good for you.



We being I have a whole bottle of it left I would like to use it up. :lol



I sprayed it onto a curved foam app, I then wiped it on and let it sit for 20-30 mins. I then buffed off the excess.



Are you applying yours direct to the tire? The mothers is more of a gel.
 
Yeah I spray it right on the tire, suprisingly I didnt get any on the paint :) hmm..maybe the foam is soaking up some of the gel, sometimes I like to spray my tire dressings if they are a little heavier onto a terry towel and then apply it to the tire and buff off in a couple minutes...Hopefully someone can chime in so you can use the rest of your FX..Ive heard its a great product so Im sure someone can help!

Getting it on the wheels would be my concern. I guess I can always use prime on the wheels after.

Once you get the hang of AJ, you can apply and remove it from an average sized car in under 20 minutes and you won't need to use AG on any residue that might remain.



I think you will see a noticable darkening and deepening of the color using CJ. Same deal, work it in until nearly clear before removing the excess. The Meguairs Supreme Shine MFs work very well with CJ.

Torch red looks insane when it is freshly polished.



I am at work right now working on a 98' Corvette that was severely neglected. I will probably use most of the same products as you used on this detail, wool pad and everything. But guess what? Mine is black and there are tons of scratches that need wetsanding! :furious: GM clear definitely isn't the easiest to remove defects from.



Here are a few sample pictures of the Vette I'm working on. It's probably going to take me 3 full days because I am removing the seats and all the rugs because it smells like mildew. Should be fun :wall

Zane, I like the 777 alot. I have used it on wheel/wells and tires in the past. I think it works pretty good. I usually cut it 1-4 for exterior. Has a good smell too.

Rick, I'm sure you will have it looking better then new, can't wait to see the pics when you are done. If I had any experience at all with wetsanding there where a few spots that needed it.

Lee, I have not had enough experience with AJ yet to say. If I can speed things up and apply it as quick as Scott does then I would be very happy with it. On a vette I can do 3 coats of zaino in an hour if I do not apply Z6 between coats.



I have never used AIO but I like prime alot.

This one, my good weather daily driver prepped and protected with Menzerna IP, Z-PC and Z5PRO and Z2PRO, topped with Z8. Wheels protected with old Klasse AIO, SG, Z5 and Z2.
