2000 grit sandpaper...

how aggressive is this? I'm thinking of trying to reduce some etching and got some 3m 2000 grit finishing paper. How risky is this?

I *really* dislike the 3M 2000 grit. It seems to leave too many "worse than 2000 grit" scratches, like the abrasives aren't uniform. The Meguiar's stuff worked *infinitely* better, easier to buff out afterwards. But OTOH I used the 3M until I got the Meg's so yeah, you can use it. Just quit a little sooner than you might be tempted to ;)

Some advice I once got that I found helpful: just use it until you've knocked out the gloss; that'll help you err on the side of caution and will happen pretty fast with the 2K. You can always take off more clear later.

I would be careful though...I decided to *not* wetsand the etching on my wife's A8...decided I'd rather have thick but imperfect clear on the roof of a daily driver that spends time down south in the sun.
