Josh,

Very impressed with the wet sanding results. Does that work as well with rock chips? Always worried about taking off too much clear coat.

Thanks

No, I would not attempt to wetsand chips. Just touch up paint them very lightly and let dry, then buff down.

Wetsanding is really useful when on a scratch or scuff mark not through the clear or primer IF the rotary or PC can't take it out.

If a scratch is through the clear or primer then it is beyond repair, then you can only smooth it down and then touch up paint what's left to make the color match. If the scratch is not through the clear then most of the time the clear can be sanded down to the level of the scratch but even then if it's too deep you'll have issues with getting the sanding marks out.

On soft clear coats this is fairly easy, but on hard clear coats, it's a nightmare.

Thanks Josh. The paint is metallic silver on an '07 Audi A6 with a very hard clear coat. I'll just touch up, buff down and live with the results.

Metallic paint is hard to match, but make sure you get the touch up from the dealership that way it will be the closest to your color. They should be able to get your exact color code.

Awesome work !!!! I can't believe the amount of time put into that detail. I am sure the owner was ecstatic.

Superb work Josh!

I know what it is like working on the same vehicle for close to 20 hours. It's never fun until it's done and glowing. You revived that one back to a new finish.

I sure hope after all that work he doesn't come back in two months telling you he needs the job done again because he took it to the car wash! I'm sure your back is still killing you after all that excellent work.

That is such amazing work! How did you fill in the scratches? Just paint it?

Are you talking about the deep white scratches in the front fender in front of the tire?

I touch up painted and filled them in then buffed them over two times with the rotary with the rest of the car.

The rest of the scratches I wetsanded. You can see that in the pics I posted.

No, I've done a few of his cars before including the 02 Z06 he just got rid of and so he knows aaaaaaalllllll about two bucket washing and such.

He really takes care of his cars which is why he brought that one to me so he could get it back to new and then maintain it.
