2 General Questions for BMW owners

JaCkaL829

it was my first time...
I have 2 general questions regarding 3 series BMWs. I'm currently considering and looking for a BMW 328i preferable 4 door, 5 speed. Anyway i'd like to know if the oil used is synthetic??? and if it requires the use of premium gas??? I'm looking at 96-98s hoping to get my hands on a morea green one. Well if anyone knows BMWs well or owns one if you can reply me back, i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I have had three Bimmer's. A 98, 01 and now a 03 with the performance package. All had synthetic and you will need to use 91 octane or higher. On my present car I use Sunocco 94. If you want a good website about BMW's go to www.bimmerfest.com. Good luck making your decision. They are great cars.

Yes the oil is synthetic. If your willing to dish out some more money and you want the best performance out of the 3 series, go 01 and up as they are amazing and very refined. :xyxthumbs

I personally like the Performance Package :bow

If i get one it prob wont be for awhile, unless something REALLY good comes up. I've always liked BMW but there is no way I can buy a new one. I also don't really like the idea of leasing. Well see what happens, I just gotta keep my eyes upon, thanks for the replies.

The E36 328 is a great car. I had a 93 325is and I still miss it. They are simply great cars to drive. As great as the inline-6 is, the handling feel outshines it. If you like the feel, the E36 vintage is preferred by some over the more recent E46 model.

I will warn you if this is your first German car...the parts and service will be expensive! The smallest item like a distributor cap can sometimes run 5-10 times the price of one on a Japanese or American car. If you can perform your own maintenance and order parts online you will save much money.

Along with bimmerfest.com, check out roadfly.org. Ask questions and get you should get your bmw preinspected...also, I really don't suggest using your new bimmer in the snow if you don't have to...they don't work too well at that!

If handling, feel and drivers car are what you are looking for I would take also consider avoiding the MY 01 cars. BMW changed the steering in 01 and it was detached and over boosted than the previous E46 cars. Many complaints and howls from the automotive press later, BMW switched back the to the same steering in MY 02 as it had in the 99-00 E46 cars.

Exceptional cars by the way. My wife drives a 00 328i. She can't drive a stick therefore it is an auto but it can still be very fun to drive.

Thanks I might have to check that place out in Edison. I'm really not into crazy speeds, handling and stuff like that. I'm prob the slowest driver out of my friends. I was just pondering the thought and looking at prices, if i can get my sister to take the truck it might work. Anyway I got my heart set on a 96-98 4 door, 5 speed, morea green 328i its just a really nice car.
