2 dp coatings review

PA DETAILER

DETAILED TODAY?
did not really set out to use these today, but broke them out.

DP GLASS COATING
DP WHEEL COATING

used a foam finger mitt to apply both.

the wheel coating was a joy to use. started with clean and dry wheels. about 2-3 spritzs on the applicator then applied to the wheel surfaces. no drama here. after a bit polish off with a MF towel. done. no issues. wheels looked great. one year of protection? will see. i plan to drop off my usuall wheel cleaner and just use soap and water as instructed. interesting product.

the glass coating applied the same. a few spritzs on the foam pad, then apply to the glass. wait about 2 min, then buff off with MF towel. my glass was clean to begin with, and no sun, made a perfect time to try it. it was a bit streaky to remove, but using a DAMP ww towel evened it out.

so my wheels and glass are coated. i'll report back on how they are doing.

did you bother polishing the windshield first before applying the glass coating or just apply it to a clean windshield?

i did not polish the glass. it was clean in my opnion. no debri or other wise. glass is less than 1 year old. guess i could have stripped it before applying the coating, but did not. amazing for 1 year. i somehow did not even pick up a single chip in the windshield all winter! i did ALL THE GLASS. it will be interesting to see after the first rain or wash....

here is some shots this morning. as you can see the glass looks great. i noticed no streaks or smears this morning.

Looking forward to the follow ups. I think you will be very happy with the glass coating upon your first rainstorm.

Not so much...

Cleaned the windshield with DP High Performance Glass Cleaner using a PC 7424XP with an LC green pad. Followed the instructions to the letter yet found the product hard to remove. Topped with DP Glass Coating by hand using a foam pad and again followed the instructions to the letter.

Took the car out in a rainstorm the next day. Sheeting and beading were not very impressive. Worse, with the wipers on, the windshield was very cloudy. This was not the case prior to using these products. Additionally, I had cleaned the wiper blades at the time I applied the DP glass products.

After getting home I cleaned the windshield with Stoners IG to try to get some of the gunk off. Out into the rain again the next day and while somewhat better the cloudiness remained with the wipers on. I'm still trying to figure out how to get this crap off my windshield.

I will NEVER use this product on my windshied again. RainX, at a tenth of the cost, does twice as good a job.

I will recommend this product for cleaning interior glass showers though. Did mine using the exact same technique as the windshield and the shower glass looks great.

Best regards to all,
Tom

Glass Coatings don't work on every windshield.

I can't get any to work on my Fusion. Wipers skip and chatter regardless what I use. So, I keep it clean and bare and the wipers perform well.

Ford tells me to avoid using any coatings on the windshield. The owner's manual makes a subtle statement also that steers owners away from coatings.

@basswood

Some cars windshields come with some coating on them I believe, maybe the coating on top of the factory coating is what's the issue.

I've used the glass restorer, it's pretty easy to remove. I'm assuming, that you didn't fully remove the glass restorer prior to application. Did you by chance get the prep polish to start over?

Also how many sprays did you use to cover the windshield. Should have been like 3-4....

:)

UPDATE:
drove home in some heavy rain last night. worked like a charm. 10/10. all the glass just sheeted and beaded. no wiper chatter. glass just blew off clean. i will state, one of the best glass coatings i have used so far.

basswood....sorry to hear your take on the product. again, i did find it a bit hard to remove at first. it wanted to "cloud" up. but i just went over the glass with a damp WW towel.

I have used Rain Clear on my side and rear glass.

Talk about working your butt off to get it sparkling and clear. Whew! It took about 1 hour to get it buffed away.

But, after the effort, it worked well.

On my windshield? No. Those dang wipers refuse to work with a coating.
