2 Days until "C" day

Cataract day that is. I`ve had a cataract in my right eye for the last few years and it`s finally gotten unacceptable in it`s affect on my vision. So, Tuesday it`s going bye, bye. I`ve been watching You Tube videos on the surgery and it looks pretty cool ... IF you can stomach medical videos :P

The recovery is only a few days/week and technically could go back to work a few days after the surgery, but I took off until the 6th (just to be safe ;) ).

God`s blessings to you sir! My mom and mom in law had it done. You will be good. Get more Detailing done

Best wishes, Don. Everybody that I know, that has gone through this, went through with flying colors. You`ll do great.

i remember when my dad had his done. he was amazed at how bright colors looked once again and wondered why he waited so long. hope all goes well for you don, it`s pretty routine surgery now.

Don- Best wishes for a good outcome and a speedy recovery, both of which I`d expect.

My cataract surgery, like that of my wife/father/friends/etc. went fine, basically a non-event other than being inconvenienced for a few hours.

I did end up getting Secondary Cataracts, but that was a very quick/easy fix with a YAG Laser that only took a few minutes (and another $900 or so). My wife got them in one eye but not the other. Absolutely nothing to worry about.

Only thing I`d caution you about, and I`m *not* saying to worry about it, is a slightly greater chance of subsequent Retina Issues. (I was, uhm...quite unlucky...at least in one eye, but that`s rare.) Talk to your guy so you know what to watch for and have the phone number of a *good* Retina specialist handy just in case. Again, don`t want you to worry, but given my permanent "new normal" in that one eye it`s something I did want to mention.

My ophthalmologist (the actual surgeon) did some extensive testing of my retina stability while she was examining the cataract and it seems to be completely stable. My way of looking at it (no pun intended) is that I could leave the cataract alone and lose sight in that eye for sure, OR get the surgery and MAYBE have issues down the road.

BTW, can you tell I`m excited? It`s 0332 hours, less that 8 hours from surgery time and I`m still awake.

It went perfectly and with the exception of a few halos & fogging my vision seems pretty darn good. I have a follow-up appointment at 0900 so I`ll get to talk to the Dr some more. So far, so good :D

Don- Glad it went well. Just be patient about the side-effects, it takes a while to heal up completely.

I still have halos around bright lights, slight hazing and everything seemed to have a blue tint to them. The Dr said the halos & hazing will go after a while and the blue tinting was from years of looking through a yellow/brown lens that distorted the color - now I`m seeing true colors through my right eye and they already talked to me about having my left eye done in a month or so.

I will be allowed to drive Friday but I still have to wear an eye guard while I sleep. My vision was nearly 20/20 which surprised them so soon after surgery. The only "pain" I`ve experienced is a slight headache and symptoms of dry-eye, but since I have to put 3 eye drops in the eye 4 times/day the dry-eye isn`t much of an issue.

Don- Sounds like your recovery is going fine. It`ll be interesting to hear how it goes from here on out. My vision kept changing for quite a while, and there was an unexpected improvement long after they thought it had stabilized.

For the eye guard, I like 3M Nexcare Gentle Pape Tape. Comes off nice and clean. And save that eye guard, never know when it`ll come in handy (I like it a *lot* more than what they gave me after my PRK).

They gave me a roll of tape from the surgical room, it sticks really well, but doesn`t leave adhesive behind on my face. The even gave me a 2nd shield for some reason. I know my Dr was very surprised at the level of vision I had a day after surgery she said my eye is healing very rapidly, then again she also said that she has never had anyone dilate as large as I did either, she said it made the surgery very easy.

As of right now, the rings around bright lights is gone and I only get a little haze when looking at a bright area, like outside or into a well lit room.
