1Z Pro Metallic vs 1Z Hi Gloss

I have been using old Pro version of the Metallic polish, which is no longer sold, I guess. I still have some, but when I run out, I either have to break into Accumulator's garage, which with his hobbies being big dogs and guns among other things, would not be advisable. :bat



Therefore, I may need an alternative. I have Menzerna, but I really like the ease of use of 1Z over Menzerna. I hear about the Hi Gloss polish and wondered if anyone who's used both the Pro Metallic and Hi Gloss could compare for me.



Like I said, I still have enough PM to get by, but always looking to be prepared, just in case.



By the way, Accumulator, just kidding about the garage thing!

SamIam- Heh heh, yeah, breaking into *my* place would be pretty ill-advised :chuckle:



I've used them both, and IMO the 1Z HG isn't as user-friendly as the Pro MP. But it's a *real* polish, capable of some correction, whereas the Pro MP is more of a good cleaner-wax IMO at least on hard clears (e.g., Audis).



Used as a final burnishing polish, the 1Z HG *IS* user-friendly...finishing pad, work it until it's almost disappeared, don't use too much. But it's just not utterly idiot-proof the way the Pro MP is; you can use too much, you can encounter very soft paint for which it's too aggressive...nothing major but still not like Pro MP.



I wonder if the Pro MP *has* been discontinued :think:



Oh, and if you don't mind stuff being left behind, and you don't need any (real) cut, PakShack still has some 1Z WaxPolish Soft, which is even more like a cleaner-wax than the Pro MP, and is even *more* idiot-proof too!
 
Sludge- This gets confusing...the can *looks* like the exact same stuff I have, but I've heard that the actual product in the can is different. That'd make about three or four different versions of "Pro Metallic Polish" over the years.



I dunno for sure what the story is :nixweiss My Pro MP is a very thick greenish-white polish with some very minimal synthetic LSP in it.

When the story went around that the Pro MP was going to be discontinued, I bought some, along with the WaxPolish Soft, which looked great on my black Audi. Since I got the pearl white Lexus, I haven't used it at all. I almost pulled it out the other day to use, but instead I just used the Pro MP, which is also the greenish-white product you have.



I used the Menzerna on the Audi, but found that with a DA, it never seemed to break down enough. It would look great in the garage, but in the sun, you could see the micro marring. If I used the rotary, no such problem. And your point about the 1Z stuff being a bit more idiot proof is right on. With my IQ, idiot proof is a good thing!
 
SamIam- Yeah, I'm sorta replacing "idiot-proof" with "Accumulator-proof" in many of my posts :D



The Pro MP *is* nice for tricky situations, huh? And I tried using the WaxPolishSoft on the metallic black Denali XL after finishing with 1Z High Gloss...it turned out so nice I ordered a bunch of it from PakShack while it's still on their shelves. IMO the High Gloss, while great stuff, hasn't quite rendered the other very mild 1Z products obsolete.



If you order some of the Pro MP, let us know if it's the same old stuff.

I was curious about all the different names you guys mentioned so I messaged Mike at Einszett and he says

"Metallic Polish was the name of the original formula discontinued about 4 years ago and was replaced by Metallic PolishWax, which was a new formulation."

Was he referring to the *Pro-Line* Metallic Polish? If so, heh heh, I'm glad I stocked up :D

As a matter of fact, I believe I found a one owner CLK500 in Atlanta. Originally, if you recall, this started because I drove my father in law's SL55, the AMG version. I started looking for a sports car, Corvette, SL55, M3, etc. Then my wife took a huge interest so the search changed. I wanted a Black on Black Roadster. She wanted 4 seats, White with Light interior. Looks like we are going for a CLK (4 seater) Orient Blue (Not black, but not white either) with a lighter interior. I think the color is striking, just unique enough to draw your eye. I got a V8, not the AMG tuned version, but did get my wife the Nav system. Car js a early 2005 and just came off of warranty today, but the owner apparently had everything gone over last week and new tires less than 3k miles ago. I spoke to the Mercedes service manager who is responsible for the car and he gave it a clean bill of health, as well as a mechanic friend at a local Benz dealer who ran the service records and said everything looked spot on. He also promised to help me out if we get it back and need a few things done, as the warranty will have expired less than a week earlier.



We celebrate our 15 anniversary next week, and if I've learned anything, it's everything is give and take........at least till I get her the Mercedes GL she is craving, then I can get whatever I want!!!!



So, I am going down to Atlanta sometime over the next week and either driving back with a new(to me) convertible, or as my German friends say, Cabriolet, or I will be flying sadly home. Keep your fingers crossed.
 
SamIam- Hey, that sounds like a good find! I like the orient blue/light combo, sounds classy and inviting (thinking about hot weather). Hope it's not a disappointment, I'll be waiting to hear how things go.



Accumulatorette and I recently celebrated our 19th anniversary :D Lucky me that the only car she really wants is her A8 (though I did see her checking out a Bentley GT convertible the other day...).
 
I like well cared for older cars. They show character. At least that's what I tell myself. congrats on 19. I got married late and I am sure as set as I was in my ways, the money was even I wouldn't make 15!



By the way, that GT is a killer car. Friend of the family just sold his sl55 and showed up in his black GT. What a great car, pinned my son back in his seat when he hit the gas. My son told him he thought he was in a time machine.



We have a Bently dealer on the NW side of Indy in Zionsville, so we see them occasionally. Come on down and buy one, and I'll buy you an adult beverage of your choice to celebrate!

Jetta- Yeah, the issue of "which version/vintage of Metallic Polish" *does* get complicated! 1Z can be a, uhm...funny company when it comes to customer relations and it's hard to keep up with the finer points of their product line.



SamIam- Yeah, I absolutely agree on the older cars having character when they're well-kept even if they're obviously, uhm...a little "experienced". But then I *would* say that, what with my toys, huh? :D



And the whole issue of a Bentley dealer gives me the willies (almost as much as the cost of the thing)...a guy who has his Porsches done at Stoddard (my Porsche/Audi dealer) had some issue with his new GT and they ended up *trucking it to Chicago* to sort it out :eek: He was without the car for ages and no way would I ever put up with that! I keep telling myself that the way Stoddard treats me oughta keep me in Porsche/Audi cars from here on out, though my local GM/etc. dealer is coming around- I'm finally getting their service dept. trained ;)



And then there's the Bentley "stupid soft clear" issue. I told Accumulatorette about that and it kinda took the bloom off the rose as far as newer Bentleys are concerned. Heh heh, imagine that, a wife who cares about such things :D

Yeah, we both were before we retired... but I wasn't doing it for the (minimal) money.



Let's just say that it's not unrealistic for my wife to express an interest in a Continental GT ;)
