Ok so I finally have all the products ready (http://www.autopia-carport.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9888). I plan on starting tomorrow morning. Here is my procedure:

1. Wash with meguiars shampoo

2. Clay with Clay Magic from Autozone using meguiars final inspection as lube. Or is car shampoo or the clay magic lube better?

3. Do I need to wash again here?

4. Swirl removal with orbital. I have light clear coat swirls on red paint. I'm guessing I should use the foam pad but not sure?

- First use meguiars #9 2.0 swirl remover with either yellow or white CMA

pad?

- If I still see swirl marks use 3M SMR

5. P21S paintwork cleanser with orbital and white pad. I heard good things about this. So thought it wouldn't hurt.

6. Dawn wash

7. Apply Z1, followed by Z5, Z2, Z5, Z2 (or Z5, Z5, Z2). Of course with proper drying times in between.

What do you guys think? does everything look :xyxthumbs ?

Thanks.

1. Fine.

2. I prefer using shampoo/ water mixture as a lube with clay. It gives better lubricity and is cheaper.

3. No need.

4. Yes. Foam. Use the white pads. Do you have SMR for "dark paint"? I prefer that to Meguiars #9.

5. Sure, a lot of solvents, may not be necessary. Only use it if you see you NEED it. You may not, especially after SMR for dark paint.

6. Not necessary. Skip it.

7. Z1, Z5, Z6, Z5, Z6, Z2, Z6

8. Sunglasses!

Not sure what you mean here. Yes use the yellow foam or the white polishing? I have SMR for dark paint. Why do you prefer it to Meguiars? I'm just curious.

Why do you say to skip the dawn wash? I have to use dawn to remove the carnuba wax I have and it is recommended prior to Zaino.

7. Z1, Z5, Z6, Z5, Z6, Z2, Z6

That order looks good! Thanks Brad :D

I JUST did a whole process almost like this today except i needed to use a fine cut cleaner.

I will show you my comments.

1. Wash with meguiars shampoo

Thats fine, I used dawn to get rid of everything though

2. Clay with Clay Magic from Autozone using meguiars final inspection as lube. Or is car shampoo or the clay magic lube better?

After your done washing DONT dry the car and use a mixture of carwash and water in a spray bottle and dry the car with a mf as you go over it

3. Do I need to wash again here?

no you dont, at least i didnt

4. Swirl removal with orbital. I have light clear coat swirls on red paint. I'm guessing I should use the foam pad but not sure?

use the white foam pad for a SMR product or the yellow if you are having trouble removing the swirls

5. P21S paintwork cleanser with orbital and white pad. I heard good things about this. So thought it wouldn't hurt.

I suggest dawn washing THEN using P21 s paintwork cleansing lotion

6. Dawn wash

as i said above dawn the paintwork cleansing

afaik applying zaino right over the p21s wont hurt it and your car will still look great, I just did this today on my moms sebring

7. Apply Z1, followed by Z5, Z2, Z5, Z2 (or Z5, Z5, Z2). Of course with proper drying times in between.

fine

Just to re-iterate for those of us who are new to detailing and incredibly nervous: It is ok to use an orbital machine (in my case a Porter-Cable) to apply and buff Zaino's Z2 and Z5 polish and swirl removers?

If so, and it looks like it is so, should I use the grey pad (no cutting) for subsequent layers?

Thanks!

Check out this thread for more info on using Zaino by machine . . .

I would use Z-5 until you are completely satisfied that any left-over swirls you might miss or didn't completely remove in your polishing step are completely filled. Then take turns between applying a coat of Z-2 & Z-5.
