1998 Aston Martin Vantage

Detailed this at the start of the week and took one and a half days doing so. One because the damn thing is huge, and two because it was trashed to say the least. It's only ever been washed by the brush attachment on a pressure washer and I doubt it had ever seen any wax/polish. It belongs to the same guy whos Vanquish I detailed a month or so ago.

Process was:



NXT wash

Clay

SSR2.5/Sonus orange

#80/Sonus blue

#16 by hand

AIO on windows/rubber surrounds

AG Clean wheels/Hyperturismo's Wheel Wax on the rims

AG Engine and Machine Cleaner/Vinyl and Rubber Care in the arches

Meg's Endurance High Gloss on the tyres

AG ITR with #0000 steel wool on the exhaust tips



This shot is after one pass with SSR2.5 and is why it remains my miracle product:

Some marks still remained, but I found I was reaching the limits of the PC so will go back when I've mastered the rotary!

Interior wasn't it too bad a shape, just needed a good vacuum and clean. Process was:



AG leather cleaner and leather care cream on all interior leather.

AG Fast Glass on all glass, plexiglass (dials etc) and shiny plastics.

AG Interior shampoo on mats and carpets.

AG Autofresh.



There was so little vinyl that I actually forgot to do the steering wheel!:o

Beautiful yet again Ben!





You really have detailed quite the assortments of beautiful vehicles and turned them around drastically at that.





I love those defroster lines on the headlights :). Nice shoes, those Merrell's?
 
Nice job on the detail. I wouldn't mind a freshly detailed British Racing Green (I think it's BRG) Aston in the driveway :cool: . You really turned that thing around.



One gripe though (about the car, certainly not the detail). The steering wheel looks like it came straight out of an early 90s Ford Taurus and they wrapped it in leather and put an Aston badge on it.

I imagine the wheel is one of those - with Aston Martin being owned by Ford lots of the cheper components find their way into the Aston's - which is a shame IMO, but happens with other marques as well.

Great job on the detail! Nice recovery!



I cannot believe that car is a 1998. It looks like the earlier 90's Virage with some minor styling tweaks. I would think that a 1998 would look more like the DB7. As soon as I saw the steering column (namely the tell-tale ignition switch) I knew it was a Ford-sourced part.
 
It is terribly expensive to design and certify an airbag system for so few cars. At least Aston now uses Jaguar-sourced steering wheels. Even that is still kind of a Ford part I guess. In the early 90's, Lotus was using steering columns out of Saturns! Excellent detail by the way. I can't believe anyone could let that car get like that.

lol, tell you what, we find all the neglected Astons and split them among the Autopians.... Nice job Ben
