1996 Impala SS

Yesterday I took my Impala to Deric (dneedsmuscles) for a full detail. I had recently driven the car cross-country while relocating to NoCal, and not only encountered some hard rain en route, but I also received some scratches on my front hood, courtesy of my Colgan Bra.

Deric took some pictures, which I'm sure he'll share when he gets around to it, as well as going into detail as to what steps he took to bring the lustre back for me. I'm sure he's wielding a better camera than I have....but here's a few pics from mine.

I couldn't be happier with the results. If you're anywhere in NoCal, and need your ride in tip top shape, you owe Deric a call.

SSWEET!!! Another SS owner on Autopia. DGGM really is a cool cool color. Lookin good! Ever head over to the Impala SS forum? Anyway, glad to have another B car guy here at autopia. I'll probably have atleast 2 or 3 SS's (plus my 94) lined up for detailing this summer.

SoundQcar- Welcome to Autopia!

I too love the DGGM b-bodies, yours looks great. I'm always impressed by how much the clear corners add to the appearance and the chrome wheels sure are in nice shape :xyxthumbs

Great looking ride and compliments on the great work!

I see you were from IA......lucky you to move to Nor Cal.

car looks beautiful ask him to post up before's and write what products he used. I always notice things like this but what kind of car you got stashed under the cover in the garage?

I love my 1996 Impala SS too. I see you got it in that light green color. I wish there was more color choices for the car ( I would have liked purple). Here's mine with a coat of Collinite 845 on it.

Thanks for the comments guys. I pm'd Deric regarding the post, I'm sure he'll go into more detail than I'm capable of.

The car only has 15k miles on her. It's as clean inside and underneath as it is on top. Mostly shown, not driven a whole lot. Maybe that will change...who knows.

Way2SSlow....glad to be part of the brethren.

vdubbya....no disrespect to those who live there, but I wouldn't wish Iowa on my worst enemy. Lived in SoCal for the first 40yrs of my life, spent 2 awful years in Iowa...don't ask, now back where I belong. :-)

757....the car under the cover is Deric's, as those pics were taken at his place. Not sure what's under there.....a Benz perhaps???

3puttjay....Nice Impy, always liked the DCM's.

Thank you to all who have replied!!! This car was fun to do as well as an honor. Bob didn't mention, but this car has won several awards for its audio system. It was custom built by Steve Cornell who is a world famous custom audio installer. So thank you Bob for giving me the opportunity to detail it for you!!

To start off with, the Impala was in great condition. Besides the scratches on the hood from the bra and 2 or 3 minor scratches, this car was in great shape. Before the wash I mentioned to Bob that I might not need to do any buffing.....that was until I washed it. After the wash I saw that I needed to add more depth to the paint. It had a light haze but nothing worth crying over. For the deeper scratches from the bra I used a PC, yellow sonus pad and OC. For the rest of the car I used OP with a white Sonus pad. I followed up the polish with JWP. The interior was steam cleaned using woolite. The chrome wheels were cleaned with Mirachems APC(what a great product!). I followed up the APC with JWP to protect the Chrome a lil and to give some extra shine. The tire dressing is Megs endurance. The leather was treated with Turtle Wax's conditioner and cleaner.

To answer the questions about what's under the cover in my garage....it's and original 66 mustang. Black on Black. It was purchased by my grandpa in 66 and he handed it down to my mother. Talk about a great paint job.....the new stuff now-a-days doesn't even compare. Need less to say, the car rarely sees day light!

COOL! Steve Cornell's old car. I didnt recognize it without the Boyds on it. That is a very very sweet ride!

Deric, it was a pleasure to have you work on the car.

Thanks for the shout out for Steve's work. He put in all the effort, and won all the awards....I'm just the lucky stiff who bought his car. ;-)

Here's a few examples of his incomparable work, as well as a pic showing Deric's nice work on the interior.

The quality of the install needs to be seen to be believed. Pics don't so it justice.

Here's a link to Steve's website, showing in great detail, all the hard work that went into this car.
