1996 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro - BLACK and SWEET!

I don't see too many of these Audis around so I had a great time working on it. It's going on almost 10 years old as a daily driver!! This one's for Accumulator and BillD!!

I have no before pictures because I started early, it was over cast, zero sun and the driveway is BLANKETED by trees. So there was no light to snap good pics. I could have used the flash but I forgot :o

The car was LOADED with marring, isolated scratches, a milky, chalky-like finish and loaded with surface contaminates.

Process:

Wash with Gold Class and sheepskin

EFHI 1:1 on tires and No Touch to dress

A2Z on wheels

3M clay

Tarminator

IG & VM on windows

#38 on trim

ScratchX and terry rag on isolated scratches and door handle wells

PB SSR 2.5 w/ orange LC pad PC speed 6

VM w/ white LC pad PC speed 5

Blitz by hand with MF applicator

I absolutely love Blitz. It's my new go to LSP wax on all colors. I ran out of the hous without my RMG so I settled for VM. SSR 2.5 when worked properly is AWESOME. I spent a long time with the ScratchX and SSR to really fix the surface damage.

The first few pics show pollen on the car. I was battling pollen like the devil himself. Within SEONDS of removing the pollen it flew back on. It was of no use to continue wiping. Plus, these people live in a jungle - so MANY trees and flowering bushes.

Excuse the pollen and awful lighting. Major over cast. I don't like to use the flash. It makes the car look even better IMHO with a "fake" look - not a good gauge of the piant when the flash is used.

I pulled the car into the garage and used the garage door light to show the surface under a standard light bulb. Generally these bulbs pic up surface defects. Don't see any :D

This next picture, I used the macro setting on my camera and got within 3 inches of the surface.

Here, I tried to use the light from the garage with the car outside.

Nice work!!! No more swirls!!!!!! So the Blitz is a go for you huh? I tried it straight after #80 with ok results. I will have to try it under VM or AIO.

What camera are you using? The macro setting is really cool especially in those situations.

Looks pretty good. How easy or hard is it to work with blitz. And like tdekany asked, any full shots?

FYI, I used to use it and it is a very easy wax to use. For me it dusted and if I remember correctly, you want to keep it away from your trim.

Thanks for the nice words :up :)

The exterior took me @ 3.5 hours. I am using the Canon A85 Power Shot that I got for $199 at WalMart. As far as full shots, these are the only pictures :( I look for closeups and angles to try to show the whole car.

I use Blitz like I do #16 and Collinite - Work 2 panels, go back and wipe off. No dusting, comes off with ease and I just keep it away from rubber trim. I apply and wipe off immediately on non-textured plastic trim.

Nice work there, Yankee! I like those pictures of the garage door opener. :xyxthumbs

Did you have to contend with any acid rain etching on the car? If, yes, how did you get rid of them?

Actually, there was only one spot of contaminate damage from bird poo. It ate through the paint :shocked

The owner takes it to the car wash every other week (for 10 years!) so although there was oodles of marring and a dull finish, there was no acid rain problem. Plus, she keeps it in the garage at night.

Spilchy- My hat's off to you, great job and only 3.5 hours on the exterior!

So the Blitz won't stain if you w-o-w-o on the plastic trim, huh?

Nice work no doubt, but I simply cannot remove swirls using a PC with the products I use. I use my Cyclo and typically Menzerna and sometimes PI III and lots and lots of time to make sure I got them out ( alcohol wipe down under the halogens and the high watt incandescents, often forcing me to go back for several passes confirms it)

But most certainly in that time frame, extremely nice results :up

Thanks guys :up

The 3.5 hours does NOT include washing and claying! So in reality, the exterior was longer - I was just referring to polishing.

The PC required me to bog it down and then slowly, slowly lift up until I just let it glide over the surface. When I felt the surface, it was hot, not warm, but hot. I had to keep switching backing plates because they got so hot, the pad wanted to fall off. I rotated plates throughout the detail!

I used brand new pads, allowed the SSR 2.5 to FULLY break down until I was polishing dust and couldn't see it anymore. This is a wonderful product :up

ScratchX is awesome too! You think you're going to do damage by scouring the surface, but you don't. It removed those scratches from your finger nails under the door handle. I used my thumb and a lot of leverage and pressure. It nicely rounded out some of the deeper isolated scratches along the side that were maybe 2 - 3 inches in length. Hood, roof and trunk had no scratches, just marring.

So the defects weren't "hard" to remove, but required muscle and patience. I have to continue my rotary work to save my forearms and wrists! Or, just buy the darn Cyclo!

The VM deepened the wet look and helped to fill some of those isolated "whisps" of marring.

Are there some scratches? Yes, but I could pic at them with my finger nail. If you slapped halogens on them, I'm sure you'll see some defects but the turnaround was amazing. Like I mentioned it was a chalky-white marred surface and it turned to a deep black, glass-like finish.

I think this detail is a prime example of how well a PC can work with the proper pad/prodcut/technique application.

Yes Accum., Blitz works on smooth plastic trim with the WOWO method. Just avoid rubber. Nice, nice product though.
