I wetsanded the truck (factory paint) with 1000,1500,2000 grit paper. I used 3m Perfect-It III To renew the finish. I used Meguiers show car glaze 7 and Meguiers Deep Crystal Carnauba wax Step 3 as my final product. All the buffing was done by hand with no machine. I did not have access to one. After i took these pics i got ahold of a makita machine and after that use with perfect-it III the paint really POPPED! WHat do you think?

Yes i was wanting to get rid of the orange peel. It was my 1sttime wetsanding. I have a friend that paints show cars. I went and asked him how to start the process. It made me mad but he said he wont share secrets for me to learn all of it by trial and error. It will just make me better. The truck has a lot of orange peel.
 
Well from the pics it looks good, but you probably don't have much clear left on it after using such a harsh grit :nervous2:
 
i never said i was an expert. just showing off like everyone else on here does. I didnt have anyone to teach me the correct way. Now i got the site here so all is well.
 
No hard feelings, but that is the best way to learn - first hand, like your friend said. It did turn out great judging from the pics, I just can't figure out why people don't research something of this nature before-hand. Hell, I'm scared to use 3000 grit on my car for some touchups I did :o Anyways, welcome to the addiction, a lot of great info here.
 
As you said, "all is well" now that you found this site...but the sad truth is you're going to have to be careful with what products you use on a finish thats been wetsanded to that extent. As for your "friend" who paints show cars...I wouldnt consider him a friend anymore with the dis-favor he did for you not sharing any secrets and to learn it all by trial and error. You can have him to thank 5 years down the road for cc failure. I wouldnt personally ever attempt to get rid of orange peel...just not worth all the clearcoat you diminish. :nixweiss

Looks good but would have been more impressive with some before shots too. ;)



I agree with the others, such heavy wetsanding probably compromised the clear coat life....which is why I will sadly live the orange peel on my car.
 
Hey its a learning process, 1000 grit is too harsh though, next time just skip the 1k and go straight to 1500 and 2000. I'm impressed that you could take all the marks out by hand, heh next time try a polisher and save your arms.
