1989 IROC Convertible full correction (37 hours) - Immaculate Reflections

The last few months have been extremely busy, so I'm pretty backlogged on photos as I have not as much time to be on the forums as I'd like. This IROC was completed a couple months ago when the weather was still nice in CA.

The owner of this car was looking to get the paint perfect after having a full repaint done. He is restoring the car and is nearly finished, so he wanted the paint to look perfect. The bodyshop had left their usual marks that needed sorting out. The owner is a successful engineer and not your typical IROC owner. His taste in other vehicles was quite nice. This particular car had significant sentimental value to him, so it had to be done right.

Total time spent: 37 hours

Products used for correction:

-3M Trizact 1500 & 3000

-Meguiars 101, 105, 300, 205

-Menzerna 85RD

-Makita rotary

-Griot's Garage 6" & 3" DA

-3D HD 6" DA polisher

-Surbuf pads

-Meguiars cutting discs

-Lake Country PFW, orange, white, black

LSP: Blackfire Wet Diamond

very nice result! I don't get it....right out of the body shop from a complete repaint???? And it looks like the finish was scowered with a brillo pad? That's not "fresh" paint in my opinion. I'm just say'in.

Killer work, Jeff! Nice to see a third gen getting this kind of treatment.

Thanks Charlie! Not many 3rd gens do get that kind of treatment, but this owner had the means :)

Thanks! He let the paint sit and cure for 3 months before having me out to work on it, but yep, straight from the bodyshop and tucked away in his warehouse until I got there.

Great car! I used to race around in 4th gens. A4 '96 and then M6 '99 Trans Ams, both bought new. I owned the '99 until 2 years ago when I sold it to my brother-in-law. I still regret selling it! 128k miles on it and still ran like a champ.

Great work Jeff! I've always loved that body style and it brings back lots of memories for me as I used to take my uncles IROC out when I was a kid. My old man did a full repaint on it and I would always clean it up for him in exchange for driving it on the weekend. :)

FYI: Every time I see an IROC I think of Def Leppard's "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" as my uncle always had that cassette in the player! :)

Great pics as always too!

Did you really have to get that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day now?

Nice work. I love the look of those, totally badass (or was it bitchen?) back in the day.

Total turd of a car though, a serious low point in the GM line as far as quality. Even with the hardtop, those had the most incredibly flexy body of any car I've ever driven, the cowl shake was nauseating.
