1987 928 S4 in swirled black-this one should be fun!

Looking great Bryan. Man it sounds like you have my garage detail products over there.

ps. I tried the Menz. 3.02 tonight and it works great. Tough learning curve like the SIP, but it is excellent. Now I know why it is sold out everywhere and on a 3 month backorder.

When and if you use the SIP, I will tell you the learning curve. literally takes 2 drops to do a 1'x1' area. Start on 600 rpm and work the polish till it starts to settle into the paint and then work at 1500 rpm. 2 drops is all it takes and anything more than that it will clump and sputter. It is finicky but does work excellent. The gloss is hard to be beat.

Glad you are liking the Presta and wool pads. That is one of the easiest processes I have ever used.

3put, very cool what part of WV. I am from Weirton.

Thanks gusbubba!

Ryan, Thanks! Bret and I are trying to get it done. He has been doing most of the polishing since we did a bit of the wetsanding and I was doing some interior work on a camry that I booked the other day. Thanks for the tip on the SIP!!!! Will try that on the next detail that I use it on.

I got my metabo in the other day. All I can say is that its "stupid smooth" with the edge adapter and the edge wool.

Great work so far Bryan! I tried calling yesterday, but it looks like you are pretty busy. I can't wait to see the full pics!

Thanks guys! I have Bret (bretfraz) here helping me, thank god! IMO most of the car needs wetsanding, but we are not getting paid to do that. Hope to finish today.

gmblack3a- That wetsanding worked great! You're sure getting it turned around :xyxthumbs Glad to hear you have BretFraz there helping, he'd be a great co-worker for any job.

Heh heh, could you please activate the knob beside the seat and report what it does, otherwise the following is gonna drive me nuts:

What is that knob between the seat and door sill?

It's a switch/electronic (or is it vacuum?) release for....for...oh man this is gonna drive me nuts :o I had a scad of 928s when I was younger (well, four of 'em), but it's been about eight years since my last one and I can't for the life of me remember what that thing releases :wall I'll probably have that question rattling around in my head for a week now!

Thanks!

Its the rear hatch release.

Same button on both sides.

Well the polishing is all done and we did a coat of ZAIO. I will put on a coat of Z5pro tomorrow.

I just wanted to say thanks Bret for all your help, guys I could not pry the metabo out of Brets hands. He did most of the major polishing and I followed along with the PC. :bow

We used like 1 million combos of polish, pads. The winning combo was:

Presta 1000 (yes one thousand) with a black wool pad rotary 1500. :shocked

ZPC with a white LC pad PC6 x2.

So you are asking yourself, how the hell does ZPC take out the marring left by the black wool and presta 1000. Heck I don't know either but it works. The car is still far from prefect, but like I mentioned earlier it would take a complete wetsanding to make it right.

Ryan, Bret tried the MIP with the black wool, he said he liked the way that MIP worked the best but it just didn't have enough cut at 2k rated to get this hammered paint right.

Here he is posing with the amount of MIP he used:

After presta 1000, black wool at 1500

Bryan, I love that picture of how much SIP brett is using. That's so funny and speaks better than words. I do not use the SIP on wool cause it tends to dust compared to presta.

SIP on a polish or cutting pad is amazing and you will be amazed. I just tested it on a red Vette and in one try it removed everything.

By the way the SIP is in the wrong bottles from what I gather. The sticker underneath is what is correct. It should say po83. The 3.01 bottles are not in english and were not used, so the reg IP bottles were used I guess.

I do not even remember the strata 1000 and how it works. I do know it is coarse and is probably needed for this car.

You had to pick an old black porcshe. Those and the white ones are my kryptonite and I refuse to do them for this reason. :wall That is one of the hardest cars to correct when they are in that condition.

Excellent turn around:goodjob :2thumbs: to the two of you guys

Thanks Ryan! I don't think the SIP gave us too much dust, I am sure it was alot less then PG. Yes you are right about the presta, none of the products really dust at all. Try not to laugh, but the presta/strata 1000 we used was vintage from 1993. :scared: I shook it for like 15 mins. It had a longer working time then the 1500.

Yes 1993......that was the last time I used it:lol Back when I was just a kid and told myself I would not be detailing for long:tumblewee

:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I'll bet you still have a vintage bottle laying around as well. I got this bottle from a friend of mine who used to have a black Grand National. For the last year he has been telling me about strata polishes and the 1000 cut that his buddies from back up north used with wool. I was always thinking your boys are freakin' nutz. Who in there right mind would use a heavy cut wool and a 1000 polish on any car? :nixweiss :chuckle:

HAHA!!! It might be somewhere. I know I found an old bottle of the chroma 2000.

I feel bad seeing you work on a car like this. Those are the toughest ones when they get that bad. Very tough paint to work with also. You will love vettes after that one.

PS. I am working on this sick vette in my garage. It's red and is going to be insane when I am done with it. spent 5 hours just washing and removing tar and claying. Was never polished or protected EVER. This think is going to glow like rudolphs nose! I love doing vettes and I am going to specialize in them. And no I am not on drugs:laugh: I love hard clears now!!!

Something tells me this will be one to remember. :spot

Thanks! I *thought* it might be that but the passenger side one had me wondering (didn't spend much time of the passenger side of mine ;) ).
