1985 Porsche 944 (Rough Old Car!)

This was one ugly Porsche. (Sorry Porsche guys, I know that sounds like blasphemy!)

The guy called me and said he had a red Porsche and needed it polished and vacuumed.

After examining the vehicle, I told him not to expect "showroom new". He said he understood and, Well, no matter what you do to the paint, you ain't gonna hurt it!!!"

I agreed.

Heavy oxidation, swirls and clearcoat failure. Original paint. Oh boy.

Process:

ONR wash
Zaino claybar
M105, PC7424XP, LC Orange KBM
M205, PC7424XP, LC White KBM
Alcohol wipedown
Blackfire Wet Diamond (x2)
Z8 wipedown
Meg's All Wheel Cleaner
ZCS on wheels
PBB&B on tires
Vacuumed interior
Wiped interior with Meg's Interior Detailer
Seats needed to be re-upholstered so I didn't do anything to them.

Looks a million times better Bill

As for the CC failure, looks like he may need a repaint.

No doubt about the re-paint. He's just trying to postpone the $5,000 - $8,000 cost as long as possible.

Needs lots of body work, also needs new interior.

But he said it runs good and he only paid $900 for the car! Not too bad for that price.;)

I told him to go to North Kansas City Auto Trim and get an estimate on getting the seats re-faced. I had some buckets re-faced in a Camaro for $288. A bargain!

Much better!

The spots with CC failure must have already been resprayed at some point. I did an 84' a few weeks ago (with only 23k original miles) that was all SS.

Nice job, Bill. I like it! ;)

Thanks Goose. It would be a nice car if restored!

That is so much better - how do you do it ???

Great, great, work !! He had to be thrilled.

Thanks for sharing.

Just get out the 'grinder' and start hackin'!!!!

Yeah, he was pretty happy. When the customer's first word is "Wow!", that's usually a pretty good sign.

From the looks of the roof, it almost looked like it had been "rattle-canned" with clear. The hood wasn't nearly as bad as the roof.

Great turn around Bill, that looks 1000% better

Thanks Todd... came out better than I thought it would.

wow, what a great turn out. I didnt think the roof would turn around like that. Great work as usual!

How long did it take for the paint correction work?

Paint correction was about 3 hours.

I agree with your analysis of the roof paint. I thought it was toast!!! But it turned out much better than I thought.

I've seen several red 944's and the paint on all of them was about the same. It must have just been a bad run of paint for them. It is amazing what some elbow grease did for that car. Wonderful.

Excellent work Bill!

I actually don't mind the look of the 944's...especially with the newer, wider wheel tire combo he has on it. For $900, I'd say it's a pretty good buy. ;)

That model was my first crush for a porker. Good work on making it look even better Bill.

Oh how I wish I can get them for $900 *lol*

Awesome turn around! I wasnt sure how much better it could get but knowing you had it raised my expectations :D Those 50/50 shots tell the whole story! Looks completely different! Awesome work as always Bill!!
