1984 bmw 325 overhauling begins

The car is going to be raced, had a terrible repaint with orange peel thrown in at no charge (Single Stage non metalic) so I can only do so much with it, but I think it will be an improvement. I can already tell that the finished paint is very finicky.

Tested the hood yesterday

Hood - I worked on the right 3rd yesterday to test the paint out but 2000 grit wasn't going to cut it so I am going back to it tomorrow.

Looks nice so far, but we all know I'm not a fan of BMW's :rofl

That's gonna be alot of work.

Thank you guys.

I'll try to document it better from now on.

Day one I just tested the right side of the hood with 2000 grit paper but that wasn't cutting it. Next day (yesterday) I went to work on the trunk instead of continuing with the hood. The car was repainted awhile back and it is not the original paint. Single stage non metallic paint is what you see. The paint job was terrible as you can clearly see it in the pictures. The Orange Peel is really bad, that is why I am sanding it with 1200 first and following it with 2000 grit.

Ok, the hood is done.

Here are some before pictures

Middle of the hood

Left of the hood with bird droppings that didn't come out completely. I'd say they are reduced 50% - I removed alot of paint, I didn't want to pay for a repaint. :D

I addressed all the deep scratches and other inperfections first before sanding the whole hood. Actually a few times some of them.

Here it is the first time around, still some swirls that were further compounded later.

ROOF IS NEXT

That is one awesome job to be able to basically restore the paint finish after sitting out in a mess for so long. It looks like a completely different car and I imagine when the sides and the rest is finished, it'll be quite awesome all around!

look s great ! The best t hing about any German Paint is , no matter how dull they are , they have enuff paint on them to buff them hard and restore the gloss. Yes it does take a lot of patience......................but it's cheaper than a re spray.

I am sure the past owner if he /she saw your transformation would say OMG was that my car....and realize they left some money on the table .LOL
