1980 black corvette

i just had a referral call from an owner of a 1980 corvette...black. i did some quick searching and didn't find much on here about earlier model corvettes, just how hideous the current models are to work on.

being 1980 and the current owner has had it for 10 years...i'm hoping it is still original paint and doesn't have a clear coat. that should make it much easier to correct.

any links or input on this type of vehicle? i'm going to meet the owner and check out the condition in a few days...i can get before pics at that time.

thanks-

that's first on my list...i'll make sure to inspect for overspray and maybe take a MF w/ some polish to test a small area for paint transfer. the owner doesn't know much about vehicles at all (he freely admitted that) and also said he knows absolutely nothing about detailing. i'll be able to educate him and hopefully get him on the right track! :)

ok...i met with the owner and found out the specifics of the car. definitely a repaint, the finish is failing badly in many areas, the paint job is VERY poor with bare metal showing on some edges, etc.

to make it worse, the first owner of the car lived on a gravel road and the panels look like they were sand blasted. then again, i suppose they actually were!

here are a few pics. i'm still trying to decide what i'll quote on this one. the owner is in no rush, so i can take my time...but obviously i can't just spend forever since she wouldn't want to pay tooooo much for it.

(sorry for poor pic quality...these were taken in a fairly dark storage garage with bright background lighting)

Wt*?? Eww... Is the car clean in those pictures? Is the paint cracking too? I'd be really careful, it's a bad repaint with bare metal showing through which means it's probably super thin or uneven. Do you own a paint gauge? How old is the repaint? If it was me, I'd ask him how much of a correction he wants/expects, tell him what I think I can safely, and realisticly give him, then base my price on that. I don't know how bad the engine/interior is but I'd also take that into consideration. Hopefully you can bring some shine back to the car and make a happy owner/return customer! Looking forward to 'afters':D
