I just finished up on the baby, 1968 Cutlass. I still need to tackle trying to improve the trim, but that could take all summer, so here she is after the bulk of it is done. The car was in good shape, never polished by me anyway. When looking at the paint under the halogens, it was actually quite bad. So over the course of a week or so I hit the car with SIP on the low profile orange pad that came with the polish. Then I followed up with Micro Polish on an LC white pad. The lsp was XMT finishing glaze followed by a coat of Nattys Blue. I was rushing a bit getting her done, so it's not where I want it, but I got a good 80% of it. I had a show today, and there were just a hint of very light cobwebbing here and there, as well as some scratches, mainly in spots by the trim where I couldn't get great coverage with the pad. I also used 303 on the interior, and I was very happy with how it turned out. In the past I just used a towel with water, and it didn't do much, but the 303 really cleaned it up and gave the interior a nice dark shine.

No other befores since they really wouldn't show much. A few were in the afternoon, and then I took some more later in the evening since the afternoon shots turned out looking a bit orange.

Style indeed! Now that's a real car :woot: ...back when cars were cars and not generic jellybeans...and the ignition switch was on the dash, right where it belongs. How I miss those days!

Ryan, I am using a Panasonic DMC-FZ7. I've had it six months and love it. This is my first venture into a camera with manual settings, so I'm still learning, but I have no complaints so far (other than grain in low light, but that's normal with all lower budget cameras).

I'm a big fan of older cars. Rarely do I look at a click and brag, but this was a great one!
 
Is that a 442 or a Cutlass? Wasn't '68 the year they became separte models (before that the 442 was an option on the Cutlass, I believe

Yes, '68 was the first year it went to a separate model. The car is a Cutlass. The previous owner that partially restored it filled in all the emblem holes, and put on most of the 442 specific parts including the grill and 442 emblem so it's what most call a "442 clone".
 
Wow, people were fraudulently doing that back when the muscle cars spiked at auction, taking a vanilla Cutlass and buying restoration parts to make it a "4-4-2" and putting it up for auction as the real thing. I think the internet put the kibosh on that by making it easy for people to check VIN's and S/N's etc.
 
Yeah, it really grinds me when people cheat like that. We actually had a guy win best of show at our local show last year with his Chevelle. He told me two years ago that it was an SS clone, but then I find the car for sale on Ebay a few weeks ago claiming it was a real SS. I bought this car how you see it, so I haven't done anything. I really want a 442 someday, so I like it how it is, but I always tell people it's just a Cutlass.



Personally I prefer the trumpet exhaust as they add some flair. They are original tips for the 442, though I do wish they didn't stick out quite so far as the ends are supposed to be closer to the bumper.
