1958 Chevy Pickup - ORIGINAL PAINT!

Last spring a guy called me and said that he had a '58 Chevy pickup that needed to be polished for a parade... ORIGINAL paint.

The one thing I DIDN'T want to do is go through that original paint.

So I was extremely careful.

Heavy oxidation, and scratches. No swirls.

Process:

Washed with QEW
PC/SSR 2.5/LC Orange 5.5
PC with ZPC/ LC White (now green Haha)
Z5P x2
Z8 wipedown

The oxidation came off pretty easily, but it went through 10-12 pads!!!

I don't think I'll need to tell you which pictures are before and which ones are after.....

Customer was very pleased.

I love restoration stories like this. Always great to see a nice old vehicle looking like new again. With so many in the junkyard, we've got to take good care of the ones that remain.

Great job, Bill.

Great work. You might as well save those pads for St. Patrick's Day, cause they will never be white again.

Where did you get those wheel blocks? I've been looking for something like them.

Nice job Bill! That truck is beautiful! Working on something like that must be so gratifying and the owner must have been extatic!

Nice work Bill. That looks like it would've been a lot of fun to work on.

It was fun indeed!!! But, I don't mind saying, I was pretty nervous when he pulled up.

"Ooohhh Sh**, what have I gotten into here?!!!

But once I put the PC to it for a few minutes, no sweat!:biggrin::rofl::biggrin::rofl:

.

The owner told me this was never a farm truck or a work truck....

It was "Great-Grandma's Truck". She only drove it into town for supplies and to church on Sunday. She kept it parked in the shed next to the barn! Still had the original upholstery too!!!

He also said, if Great-Grandpa's truck broke down, he was out of luck until he fixed it, because Nobody drove Great Grandma's Truck!!!

Nice work Bill
I've done a few single-stage paint details. There's a reason why I don't throw old used pads away :D

Yeah, two or three passes and the pad just looks loaded with oxidized paint! I rarely throw pads away unless they've caught on some trim and they're really torn up.:)

Bill that rear fender looked pretty oxidized - did those areas come out as good as the hood did?

Hmmm - well I am glad to be able to report Great Grandmas truck is OLDER than I am! :) (but not by much)

The fenders were a little beat up. They turned out well, but on closer inspection, they could have used a little more buff.... I just didn't have the guts to bear down anymore considering the 50 year old paint!:scared:
