1950 pit stop vs. today

It's astonishing to see how far we have come. In 1950 it took 67 seconds! isn't the record now like 2.3 seconds?

Yea. I remember watching NASCAR back in the late 70's, earily 80's & watching the pit crew give the driver a drink of whatever thru the window. Crazy

Years ago, the company I worked for sponsored a truck in the Craftsman Super Truck Series. Darrel Waltrip drove the truck. As a performance based incentive I won a place on the pit crew at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway event. My role was relatively minor, I was fuel guy #2, meaning I got the fuel from the pump to the pits and handed the fuel in 10 gallon shoulder dispensers to the guy that put it in the tank. He put 2 in and I handed him the second one.

We didn't do well that day, if I remember correctly Darrel was fired as a result though the loss wasn't his fault. The truck ran on 7 cylinders most of the day and was clearly down on power. We were supposed to have a meet and greet with him after the race but he stormed out of the pit trailer and walked past us like we weren't there. That said, it was a very cool experience, a whole new perspective watching the race from the pits. These guys were serious and very good at what they do.
