1929 Ford Model A

My Father has a 1929 Model A and would like me to do a detail on it for him. The only part I'm not to sure about is the roof of the car. It seems to be leather but I am not sure and neither is he.

I was wondering if any of you have any advise on how to go about doing this detail...this will be my first time doing this old of a car.

Any help would be great!

I am pretty sure the Model A had two roof options: rubber or leather. So if it is original, I would assume it is leather (based on the assumption you can tell it obviously isn't rubber).

Even if you still aren't sure, it is still safer to treat it as leather. If it is rubber, you aren't really doing any harm treating it with good leather products. Where as, if it is leather and you treat it as rubber, you could be pulling out some of the essential oils in the leather.

I have never done anything that old, but I would say, the biggest thing is to take your time.

What type of paint- SS or BC/CC? If it's single stage I'd suggest Megs products-maybe Ultimate compound, and finish with Menzerna Final polish 2. Don't go too aggressive.

Thanks for the help guys!

I believe it is SS paint, I will test this the next time I am at my Dads house to be sure.

I will also post some pictures of it as well and will keep you updated on the progress.
