$1200 scratch

i have a scratch on the rear passenger-side quarter panel, about 3 inches and 1/2" scratch on the bumper. It went down to bare metal so I know scratchx won't work, doh.

Took it to Autobahn in Mountain View and they want to replace the entire panel and repaint the entire bumper....4 days and $1200. Uh, too much for my grocery getter silver Accord :( .

I put touch-up paint over the scratch to prevent rusting, but should I:

a) fork over the $1200

b) get it done somewhere else to just get the scratch filled (how much?)

c) use some touch-up paint & scratchx to just prevent any further damage

The scratch isn't that noticeable, so it doesn't have to look perfect.

$1200 that just wrong , I would find a good local touch-up guy. I found one that is mobile , found him at the Toyota dealership. He does a great job on touch work and what your talking about should well be in the range of what one can do.

what ever you do don't pay the 1200 , I just got a price to paint my moms excursion hood , passenger door and fix four small dents for $650.00 and I know the work is top notch.

that's what I thought. I gotta grow a beard to look older or something...I hate it when people try to rip me off.

I'm going to give dent pro a try. The online estimate said $150, so we'll see.

You gotta be kidding. Screw 'em. :angry

I'd go with just doing a really good job touching it up - or pay to get it done, I guess, but I probably wouldn't - and polishing that.

Sorry about the scratches on there, though. I had a little incident in the Sebring that resulted in me touching up a couple spots. It sucked, sure, but, like yours, very minor stuff. On your silver car, they'll probably be even more so. Don't worry, be happy. :p

I have the same problem except mine is on the driver's rear passenger door. I touched it up myself but it looks really bad (silver car). I haven't taken it in to get an estimate and it's been about 2 years now. I'd hate to get it fixed and then have someone run into it.

that's why I haven't fixed the paint damage on my rear bumper. My dad rubbed a pole with the car several years ago and since them it's been touched a few times by over egar SUVs in the parking lot at work.

Estimate was 600 for the two tone paint. That's just too much for a back bumper that will be damaged within a few months again.

Btw, if you use DentPro, I think there is a AAA discount.

went to dentpro before work this morning, total cost: $0 :D

the guy took some mineral spirits/paint thinner and removed my ghetto touch-up job (pre-Autopia) and told me to use a hobby brush to touch it up. He said he could do it for $350 if I wasn't satisfied with the the touch up.

I filled in the scratch using a toothpick and will use some scratchx to make it less blobby. The scratch is way too thin (width of a knife) to use sandpaper, well for me at least. I have some pics, but I'll post em once I am completely finished.

here is the scratch pre-Autopia with my awful touch up skills, notice that there are two lines of touch-up paint:

scratch after a quick go at it with scratchx and #9 by hand with a damp foam pad and terry towel. There's only one line of touch-up paint because the bottom mark was a scuff mark, doh. Hopefully after several attempts it'll get better :)
