10lbs of linguine and white clam sauce.

Starting Christmas off right! Last night I spilled a 10lb. tray of linguine and clam sauce in my new Jeep while driving in the Boogie Down B-X. (roads are basically continuous 1 foot deep pot holes)

This AM I hit it with the Desidero. 90% improvement. Ounces of it dripped in the cracks of the fold down rear seat, hard to get some of the areas. I'll take the seats out tomorrow and give it a proper cleaning. My thanks to the Desidero, the vapor side worked like a charm and the extractor had plenty of white clam sauce. I put a little Zaino Z-10 on the seats after steaming, they look like new.

:hairpull

So...you think in the summer when you get in the car after it's been parked all closed up in the sun...it will still smell like an Italian restaurant? Bummer, man.

Where were you in the "Boogie Down," the South Bronx? :chuckle: Were you at least playing old skool RUN-DMC?

Secondly, why on Earth did you not tie it up in a Hefty bag or two and lay on the floor? or in the trunk area?

Like Setec said, nothing like months old garlic and clams to satisfy the senses down the road. Maybe use an ozone machine?

I'll put it on lease swap beofre March.....someone else can enjoy Ciro's fine cooking.

I was in Boogie Down Morris-Park. I had on Notorious BIG to quell the masses.

If I knew I was going to be sand-bagged and ordered to pick up the food on my way, I would have been prepared. Total BS. I had it in the hatch area on the floor. The car was full of gifts, which also picked up the wonderful scent.

Hmmm...

Reminds me of when my Mom borrowed my truck during the summer once at a family gathering to run get ice cream and she spilled a shake in the carpet and didn't tell me...I kept having this funny "growth" that I couldn't figure out what it was for the life of me.

Needless to say it was like a HS lesson in dairy bacteria cultures....

The end result. The car stunk so bad I had to take the seat out and get the source of odor removed. I heated up the vapor cleaner and got working.

Improvement, yes. Worthy of the time and effort.

Odor gone, not completely.

There is still a faint odor of garlic and clams. The seats have a fabric section which was totally saturated with butter and oil. I shot steam into the foam of the seats beneath that section to saturate them and purge the oil out. It did work after many passes, the towels I used to dry them had to be changed frequently to avoid reintroducing odors to the area. I dried the seat foam with a heat gun before installing the covers back on. Not drying them is a good way to grow mold in the car. The carpets came clean, as did the leather and metal surfaces. I sprayed Lysol as an attempt to kill any bacteria that may have been growing the past few days.

Right now its in the garage with the windows down, we'll see if it helped tomorrow morning.

Hmmm...nope, I guess not! I'm outside of NYC completely. Thanks for looking at the Lotus that I did...It was a friend's so I didn't take as much as I could of. I did it more for the pure joy of detailing.

Ahhh, Linguini With White Clam Sauce!

Sorry about your misfortune, but I thank you for helping me pick what I’m going to order for dinner! I just didn’t know which way to go until I read your post.

Now let’s hope I get it all home in one leak-free moment.

As for your smell situation ... buy a “mildew rid bag AND an “odor rid bag at Bed-Bath & Beyond or similar store. Throw them under the seat for a couple weeks changing them weekly. They got rid of a nasty, putrid, rotted-into-the-carpet food smell. It was an apple (I think) that lost its way under my seat for 3 weeks in the summer sun.

Suddenly I’m not so hungry remembering how I found that smell. Ugggh.
