10 hour detail on a Black SL55 (56k warning)

I met the owner of this vehicle, a black SL55. He had it delivered from the dealership swirled and scratched up from their prep guys. He searched all over new england for a quality detailer, but could not find one. So he found me and I was very willing to help him out. He is a great guy and stayed along with me for every step of the process I did to learn and see what I was doing to his car. I had a great time doing it and he was highly impressed with the results.

What I did was wash his car, dry it, Go over it with the porter cable buffer and a yellow pad with meguiars DACP to get out all the deep swirls and scratches (left by the dealer prep and the other inexperienced "detailers" that touched the car), Meguiars #9 2.0 swirl remover with a white pad to leave a smooth finish and get out the fine scratches DACP leaves behind, and then i finished off with S100 Shine enhancing polish with another white pad to really bring out the gloss and completely remove any haze left over. After that I topped it with a coat of pinnacle souveran wax. Here is a before shot of the vehicle under a bright shop light(the ones you find at gas stations, sodium halide or something?).

here is the hood under that same light after 10 hours of detailing.

Not too shabby. 10 hours???? What is it with the time being spent on cars today. lol How much did you charge for this job?

Great job! :bow Any plans of moving to California?

Why don't we have decent detailers here in the SF Bay Area :nixweiss

BTW do tell us what you charge for a job like this.

Very nice..... must've been a pleasure to work on that car and just to see the amazing sparks on it. Good Job!

I would have refused delivery of the car. I just bought an M3 and told the dealer that I didn;t want the car waxed. No swirls when I took delivery. I just bought a 04 CLK 500 on Saturday for my girl. I will not let them wax that one either. They ***** and moan about not waxing but I told the dealer that if I saw one swirl in the finish I would refuse delivery.

Commenting on the original post in this thread... what a lovely job, simply amazing... I wish you lived in Florida then I wouldn't have to detail my own car! That SL55 looks simply radiatant; how I wish I was able to afford one!;)

Al,

That is some great work! :bow :bow :bow

It is amazing what can happen to a car when in the wrong hands, (dealers, etc.) !

It is also amazing what can happen to a car when in the right hands! :xyxthumbs :D

I love that car!

Keep up the great work!

Cheers,

My Black 7 Series

Damn Ali... that SL looks awesome. I drooled over a car just like that on the highway today. But, of course it didnt look as good as that one. ;)

But the one I saw didnt have those rims, they look like the wheels my friends old Sterling had. I like the stock AMG ones much better.

I would still drive it though. :p

Yes i also dislike those rims there terrible what where the amg designers thinking the rim looks small in width compared to the Stock AMG/// Rims those look bad and i would not pay extra to get them but thats a super job detailing i also never let the damn dealer detailers do the job they use dirty towels and try to do everything quick so your car looks good for delivery but when you get up close it looks like junk but there are some good dealer detailers out there nice job though i love the SL55

Beautiful job!!:xyxthumbs :bow

I love detailing black cars, then having the owner search for swirls and can't find any!!:D
