05 World Car Care Expo

Fortunately for myself......and also Ron, this event was held in our great city of San Antonio.

We missed the first 2 days due to work but we did get to attend Friday and Saturday. Ron and I were like kids in a candy shop, there was just isle after isle, row after row of companies showcasing their goods. Some companies had full working displays of their tunnel carwashes (minus the water), vacuums, air dryers, buffers, extractors.....it just went on and on.

On Saturday morning Ron and I attended the "networking" breakfast and we had some of the industries top detailers at our table. There was Bud Abraham, Kevin Farrell, Prentice St. Clair, Ron Ketcham, David Ghodoussi and we also had Mike, Greg and a great lady detail shop owner (I forgot their full names and business names but do have their cards somewhere:nixweiss ) and we talked for hours about the detailing industries ups and downs and what we can do to improve the profession. Perhaps some things were started that will be continued later on in the near future.

Ron and I had a great time with Ron Ketcham. Information overload from this guy, we could not absorb it all. Mr. Ketcham is known by many as "Grumpy" but he is anything but that. Very friendly and as long as you don't come off as a know-it-all, he will help you out in any way he can. he gave us some samples of his Cerious compund, cutting compound, finishing wax and a product called Odor Terminator that just sounds too good to be true! My thanks to Ron for a great 2 days:xyxthumbs

I also finally had the chance to meet Scott Perkin, one of the top detailers in the world. He came by the Optimum booth as I was doing rotary demos on a hood. Had the chance to see him work the rotary and the guys knows his stuff, he also now wants a Metabo rotary:D

I also meet up with Rocco Caporaso, owner of Gliptone products. He talked with Ron and I for some time about his products and then on the last day gave me tons of samples.....not just tiny samples but FULL gallons of products plus a full tub of their paste wax....I will be using these through out the coming weeks and post up my results.

Ron and I in the last 2 days of the event were given so many samples we had to make several trips to his van to get it all in, plus we got a black Lexus hood and get this......a guy pretty much just gave us a $1500 "heated" extractor:eek: All on a hand shake that we would pay him $1300 at the end of 30 days!!

We didn't even get to see all the stuff they had there. I was dissappointed though because the detailing world was sadly represented. By this I mean it was lacking the presence of more professional fixed and mobile detailers. I HIGHLY encourage detailers to take the time to attend next years event, which I believe will be held in Las Vegas. Ron and I will most likely attend this one also and do more buffing demos also.

It would be great to get more of a "detailing" presence there and if you go make sure you look me up.

Sounds very cool! "Candy store" sounds like a great way to put it!

Gliptone is a NY company. With a name like Rocco Caporaso, you know they're from NY!! They're big here in the northeast.

I use their "Pro Buff" consumer line cleaner wax ALL the time. Awesome one step cleaner wax with a fine abrasive that removes all sorts of blemishes and icky stuff. GSRstilez (Sean) uses it too wth a rotary. He uses their pink Body Gloss QD too. I also use their car wash shampoo. I get it here $4 a gallon.

That's neat you got boat loads of Gliptone down in TX. At least you'll cut your expenses by not buying new products!

I'll curious how they work for you!

Cool story. I think its everyone's dream here to attend a show like that and get free goodies.

I also live in San Antonio, wish i would of made it a point to go.:(

Anthony, how do u feel about the optimum line, especially the polish?

Anthony, Thanks for the 'review'! Wish I could've made it. If you come across details on next year's event, be sure to post the info ASAP! I'm all for Vegas next Spring!!

-You won't be disappointed with Ron's "Odor Terminator". I'm a huge fan, and use it on EVERY vehicle, in a variety of ways

Thanks again...

Jim

Man, that sounds like an awesome weekend! Thanks for sharing.

What products generated the most 'buzz' or caught your attention? IMO, I think folks are going to be really happy with the new Optimum polish -have you tried the compound yet?

p.s. - Thanks for bringing up the Metabo! You know I'm at the breaking point.

That's awesome!! What products did you get? I am currently using their platinuim with teflon and their Probuff.

I really like both products.. The platinuim with teflon could be one of my fav. LSP's...

So yeah, lemme know how it goes...

I wish I could have made it down but with business and a death in the family, there just wasn't any way I could have made it this year.

I'll be looking foward to your reviews on the new products you have your hands on, Anthony!

Anthony, thanks again for your kind words. I was pleased to have the opportunity to screw around with some optimum polish with Anthony and will attest to everyone here that this guy is the real deal. Anthony can polish with the best of them and is a really nice guy to boot. I am glad that you also had some time to spend with Ketch. He's a hell of a guy and forgets more about paint than most people will ever know. I wish I had made it to the networking breakfast but Greg and Mike kept me out pretty late Saturday and I just didn't feel like getting out of bed at 6 am to make it (and I was flying out a little later). I would love to see more people at the event next year in Las Vegas and hopefully you will make it. See you soon.

I was keeping an eye out for you buddy and was disappointed not seeing you there. Sorry to hear about the loss for your family and hopefully you can come to Vegas next March.

The feelings are mutual:D I talked with David from Optimum this morning and he said he was sorry he missed meeting you at the show. I believe he was speaking with Steve Okun when you and Greg pulled into the booth.

David, Ron, Kevin and myself are already looking forward to Las Vegas 06 and I hope to see more detailers there. I will notify the board here in advance of the dates and perhaps we can all plan on a "meet and greet" dinner or something......how's that sound ya'll? (I am happily married so obviously no strip clubs:eek: ) LOL

Scottwax, also sorry to hear of your loss.

Thanks. Everything for the weekend was really up in the air until it was too late so I figured I'd go ahead and work this weekend. I'm taking a week off at the end of May anyway to see my oldest son graduate from high school and to bring both my boys down for the summer.

March might work for me next year. Maybe we could have an Autopia Pro's meet there!

Scottwax, I think you just elected yourself as the "Primary Organizer". Certainly, I second the choice!

It might be kinda pricey, but let's think about getting a private dining room at any one of the many fine steakhouses...

Sounds like Fun!

Me? I can only 'get away' for limited periods of time, so, like many of you, I need to schedule/allocate that time well in advance...

I just received an invitation to attend the Barret-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, in January, with VIP Credentials!!!, so I can't get away for much more 'car stuff'.

Mrs. Buffit doesn't consider these trips to be 'quality time together'; go figure!

See y'all in Vegas!
