Fortunately for myself......and also Ron, this event was held in our great city of San Antonio.
We missed the first 2 days due to work but we did get to attend Friday and Saturday. Ron and I were like kids in a candy shop, there was just isle after isle, row after row of companies showcasing their goods. Some companies had full working displays of their tunnel carwashes (minus the water), vacuums, air dryers, buffers, extractors.....it just went on and on.
On Saturday morning Ron and I attended the "networking" breakfast and we had some of the industries top detailers at our table. There was Bud Abraham, Kevin Farrell, Prentice St. Clair, Ron Ketcham, David Ghodoussi and we also had Mike, Greg and a great lady detail shop owner (I forgot their full names and business names but do have their cards somewhere:nixweiss ) and we talked for hours about the detailing industries ups and downs and what we can do to improve the profession. Perhaps some things were started that will be continued later on in the near future.
Ron and I had a great time with Ron Ketcham. Information overload from this guy, we could not absorb it all. Mr. Ketcham is known by many as "Grumpy" but he is anything but that. Very friendly and as long as you don't come off as a know-it-all, he will help you out in any way he can. he gave us some samples of his Cerious compund, cutting compound, finishing wax and a product called Odor Terminator that just sounds too good to be true! My thanks to Ron for a great 2 days:xyxthumbs
I also finally had the chance to meet Scott Perkin, one of the top detailers in the world. He came by the Optimum booth as I was doing rotary demos on a hood. Had the chance to see him work the rotary and the guys knows his stuff, he also now wants a Metabo rotary
I also meet up with Rocco Caporaso, owner of Gliptone products. He talked with Ron and I for some time about his products and then on the last day gave me tons of samples.....not just tiny samples but FULL gallons of products plus a full tub of their paste wax....I will be using these through out the coming weeks and post up my results.
Ron and I in the last 2 days of the event were given so many samples we had to make several trips to his van to get it all in, plus we got a black Lexus hood and get this......a guy pretty much just gave us a $1500 "heated" extractor
All on a hand shake that we would pay him $1300 at the end of 30 days!!
We didn't even get to see all the stuff they had there. I was dissappointed though because the detailing world was sadly represented. By this I mean it was lacking the presence of more professional fixed and mobile detailers. I HIGHLY encourage detailers to take the time to attend next years event, which I believe will be held in Las Vegas. Ron and I will most likely attend this one also and do more buffing demos also.
It would be great to get more of a "detailing" presence there and if you go make sure you look me up.
